I wish I felt the same way about this album that most people seem to feel, but I’ve given it several listens now and it’s still only alright to me
so many of the songs here start off sounding amazing, but I end up being disappointed by the end that they went in the direction they did (ivy’s a big example of this, I absolutely love the hook but I don’t really care too much for the rest of the song)
favorites: pink + white, white ferrari, ivy
“IF MY NECK COULD TALK TO ME, ALL HE’D SAY IS BRR” 🔥🔥🔥🔥🗣️🗣️
yeat somewhat makes up for his lackluster rapping on this album with his good beat selection, creating a consistently otherworldly atmosphere.
while not nearly as thematically consistent as 2093, this album further proves that yeat is one of the best trap curators from a production standpoint doing it right now
favorites: ORCHESTRATË, THE COSTËS, SO WHAT
still love this single but the album version clears so hard it’s not even funny, the last minute of the album version when the cinematic strings/synths come in is the single best minute of music I’ve heard all year
the emo boy monologue towards the end is the only thing preventing this from being a perfect chill banger, still one of my favorites off the album for sure
just relistened to this for the first time since it came out in 2020 and against all odds, I still like it
easily one of the saddest, but also most beautiful, albums of all time
highlights: real death, ravens, forest fire, when I take out the garbage at night
FAVORITE: toothbrush / trash
easily some of the best storytelling I’ve ever heard in an album, like I actually get nervous whenever something intense is happening in the story of the songs lol
while the album kinda falls off in quality and storytelling after sing about me, the first three quarters of this project are near perfect. also I hate the hook on Real and it very much takes me out of the project unfortunately
that being said, this is obviously an incredible album and would be most artist’s magnum ... read more
people weren’t ready for this album
out of all of kendrick’s albums, this is the one that hit me the hardest on first listen. where all of his other albums needed some time for me to click with them, this one was an instant classic in my book.
every single song here feels so genuine and brutally honest, it really feels like a series of therapy sessions in music form. everything is so cohesive, from the sung motif that introduces each of the two discs as well as closes out mother I ... read more
God’s debut feature is on this album, how can you not love it
Highlights: Black Skinhead, Hold My Liquor, Bound 2, On Sight
FAVORITE: Blood On The Leaves
having listened to three matt elliott albums by now, I can safely say that this guy seems kinda sad
favorites: oh how we fell, dust flesh and bones, the pain that’s yet to come
easily the most underrated Kanye album imo, the sonic & lyrical progression across just 7 songs is crazy
favorites: ghost town, no mistakes, violent crimes
slept on this because it was so early in his discography but yep it’s peak
