While I think their debut was a solid release, I much prefer their second album because of its more consistent quality. The title track is easily my favourite song of the year, hitting hard with the reggaeton sound and have the most infectious hooks laid all over it. "Impurities" is a gorgeous pop/R&B track that takes on some 90s energy and that's what I'm all about, whereas the last two B-sides are also solid tunes.

Definitely a strong set of songs on GFRIEND's ninth EP. Some callbacks to their usual style, but also some nice changes that help it stand out. "Apple" is hypnotic.

One of the most consistent K-Pop EPs that I have listened to before, Da Capo works by delivering on every song. Pretty consistent quality throughout, although it would have been better if "1,2,3,4" was a bit stronger.
+ "Doll", "Lalalilala", "You.zip"

Another hit for the girls, Thank You is 70s disco and 80s post-disco funk heavy and I'm here for it. Flashy synths and slick hooks, it isn't the stuff that would hit right away but will certainly grow better and better with age.
+ "Thank You", "Love is Gone", "Can I Love You"

Kara's return is a solid offering, bringing their most consistent work to date. The title track is the strongest of the bunch, a bombastic dance/pop song that takes on similarities from their previous works. The rest of the songs are decent, although "Happy Hour" is on the weaker side of things. Maybe it's my Kara bias coming through, but I loved it.
+ "WHEN I MOVE", "Shout It Out"

NewJeans' debut EP allowed the group to breakthrough overnight and become an instant success. Luckily, the EP also retains a strong consistency in terms of quality and sound. A nice R&B/pop flavour lays the foundation with the more refreshing vibes that have allowed the group to stand out compared the more noisy or synth-driven styles of current.

Eunbi's third EP is easily her strongest offering yet. The large majority of the songs are uptempo tracks, bringing in some elements from her previous EP with tracks bringing light electronic and dance elements. This is especially evident in the stampeding title track as well as the slinky "Croquis", with the latter coming across as a sister track to "Glitch".
+ "Underwater", "Croquis"

A very solid release from Red Velvet and one of their stronger EPs recently. A wider variety of sounds but the songs still sound particularly fresh and interesting, unlike many of the tracks from their last EP. With that said, I'm still pretty partial on the title track, which I find decent, but not as fun as "Queendom".
+ "Feel My Rhythm", "Rainbow Halo", "Bamboleo"

aespa's third EP is easily their strongest offering yet, bringing back some of that odd experimental nature in their sound with some more streamlined takes. The opener is easily my favourite, opting for a slower but more dramatic and built-up style that showcases their vocals, but the title track with its bombastic arrangement is also a lot of fun.
+ "Welcome to MY WORLD", "Spicy", "Thirsty"

2nd EP
Release: 2022.02.21

Easily their strongest effort to date, it features some dynamic uptempo tracks and slicker R&B tunes. There is a nice display of variety here and also tries to mature the girls' discography in some ways without taking away from their classic charm. I just wish there was a stronger vocalist to really take the R&B songs to a higher level.
+ "RUN2U", "YOUNG LUV"

Easily one of the group's strongest EPs. The general quality is quite consistent and feels like a strong display of their more mature side. I like that there aren't any slower songs to stunt the energy as well.

A pretty solid release from the girl group. The title track is a fun follow-up to their first three EPs' style but doesn't feel like much growth. The B-sides are all pretty solid too.

Despite only including 6 of the 9 members, SF9's newest EP is a decent summer release. The title track is fun, catchy and has a great beat. While I don't think it quite tops their last EP, the rest of the tracks hold on well enough with some decent hooks here and there.
+ "SCREAM", "Driver"

BoA's third EP has the artists attempting to go outside of the box. Instead of the usual dance/R&B focused title track, "Forgive Me" brings in some punk elements. The rest of the EP jumps around a lot, but there are some interesting sounds in songs like "Sketch" and "Breathe", although the results are mixed.

A surprisingly decent release from Onew. The first two tracks are great, blending in some retro styles that make he songs dynamic and fun. The rest of the album goes for a more mellow approach, but they still have some charming moments.

Not the biggest fan of ballad focused EPs, but this is surprisingly good. Still some uptempo stuff like "Hurdle" to help break the slower pace but even the ballads were pretty decent as they opted for that 90s pop/rock kind of style.

Definitely the group's best EP partly because it does away with slower tunes. The title track is lighthearted and catchy and is a grower, while there are some really solid album tracks that follow the retro vibe such as "Rewind".

For the first solo release from TWICE, Nayeon hit is out of the park here. The title track isn't the best song, but its bright and summery energy is perfect for the season and the rest of the EP follows suit with a nice variety of tracks. The stand out however is definitely "No Problem" for me, with its 80s inspired arrangement.

LE SSERAFIM's debut was grappled with scandal, which left me avoiding the release for the most part but coming back to it, it's a solid debut effort. The title track is different and energetic, although I don't quite think it is as exhilarating as when it was first released. The rest of the EP is good with "Blue Flame" and "The Great Mermaid" trying out different uptempo sounds, although "Sour Grapes" lets the EP down for me.

A solid release from TWICE, although a bit of a letdown from their 2021 material. The title track is pretty solid and nice progression that combines their more mature elements, however the rest of the EP is hit or miss. Sometimes you have a good song like "Basics" and then they will go to something rather corny with "Queen of Hearts".

A funky and solid debut for the year, FIFTY FIFTY surprised me with their variety of sounds and their softer delivery. While "Log in" is your usual girl crush style, it is the weakest of the EP's songs. "Tell Me" brings a light hearted city pop energy while the title track, "Higher", brings a mid-tempo groovy disco-lite tune.

Probably the first title track that I'm not a big fan of, "BOCA" just isn't all that interesting or new from the group even if it is a solid track. There are some album tracks on here that are better and I wish they went with instead, but "Dear" is amongst the group's most bland tracks.

I actually enjoy "Ridin'", even if it isn't the most innovative track, the hook is killer. The rest of the EP is decent as is the case with most of SM's recent works as the harmonies help to flesh out even the most boring of tracks. Unfortunately, "Puzzle Piece" is a bit too boring me.

The overall EP comes off like a nice advancement in the group's maturity level, bringing in some slicker sounds and styles that help to bring more variety to the group's discography. The title track is a funky disco-pop song, but there are some nice mixes of R&B and retro sounds that keep it interesting even if the songs need some work.

A decent first entry from the sub-unit of tripleS. The title track is easily the EP's strongest offering, a slick but refreshing pop tune that highlights solid hooks and a less in-your-face vibe. The rest of the EP has some solid tunes as well although not quite as memorable.

GFRIEND's revival as VIVIZ is a nice continuation of the material they tried to take on as six members. While the group isn't as vocally strong as Yuju isn't around, the material is still quite dynamic, with a nice mix of 80s flair and some of their classic power pop.

Compared to their last EP where the quality was more inconsistent, this one is pretty good overall. There is no track that I really love, but I see myself bopping to some of these. One of ATEEZ's stronger releases, especially compared to the others in the "FEVER" series. "Eternal Sunshine" is one of the group's best songs in a while and it is nice to hear them take on something more bouncy and summery. The rest of the EP is their usual style, but lacking on the stronger hooks and melodies.

A surprisingly solid listen from Eunbi. Unfortunately, it is plagued by some blander choices in its second half. The last two songs are boring coffeehouse pop songs that go nowhere.

A pretty alright release from aespa. A strong title track that is buoyed by some decent B-sides and a few blander ones.
