This man is literally washed in terms of age but somehow still is one of the best in the game. WTF. To newer rappers, SMH. (see what I did there)
This album is just Hit-Boy making banger beats and Nas making banger flows, and JUST THE 2 OF THEM. That's impressive. There's nothing to say about the sound, just "banger" sound. Your head will bop until your neck breaks. Just listen.
FAVORITE: Beef. When you're talking about beef as if it's a person, you demonstrate ... read more
OK... I don't understand what's special about this album. The first half of the album was pretty good but then it falls off. It doesn't have a specific vibe or coherent message, which, mind you, did NOT age well. Still, liked it.
FAVORITE: No Role Modelz. Only because it's flawless. It doesn't have any qualities that would make it special.
LEAST FAVORITE: Note to Self. Bro thought he made a classic 🙄
Description of every track:
Intro: intro with bad singing
J28: ... read more
This album is very concept-focused, has a dark and moody vibe to many of the songs, and personally I like it. It's just that many songs on this album don't really have an effect, so for me this album is not the best. There are just some really weird moments and really useless moments like "The right things are so much better than the wrong things" 🙄 and how Santa Claus is a capitalist trap on the most emotionally poignant song on the album. 🙄🙄 Nonetheless, the ... read more
I'm not going to drag this review on. This is such a long album and it can feel like a mixed bag sometimes. However, personally, I feel like this album has some of J. Cole's most introspective and intricate works to date. It's nowhere near being a classic but this is Cole's most honest work ever.
FAVORITE: SAFETY. You do have the two intro tracks to Disc 39, but this, apart from being told from many perspectives (and not Cole's), showing his artistry, it's also a ... read more
I'm mad I couldn't get this higher. Best storytelling and gangsta rap ever. Everything works out perfectly with the instrumentals supplementing ethereal images of life in the hood: the good, the bad, and the ugly.
FAVORITE: SAMIDOT. Do I really need an explanation for this?
LEAST FAVORITE: Real. A bit repetitive and unmemorable, not the best performance from Anna Wise.
Description of every track:
Sherane: starts off with a prayer, slow and dreamy vibe throughout the song, sets the ... read more
I think this is currently my pick for best rap album of the decade. JID showcases hard work and talent on dark instrumentals with track after track of top-tier storytelling. This is inarguably JID's best work to date, and will most likely retain this status for a long time. I love this album; it holds a special place in my heart.
FAVORITE: Sistanem. "Asked questions, *choice*s, *destin*ation, courses, highways, *routes*, Royces rollin' voices" and *DESTIN CHOICE ROUTE* is ... read more
I like NFR Podcast's description of this album: an onion. The meanings are layered and stacked on top of each other encoded in beautiful lyricism and mixes of jazz, soul, funk, pop, and a billion other genres. You can never stop listening to this album, because if you did, you would miss out on a brand new experience. Every single listen brings you into a different world, where you dig up Kendrick's personal belief bit by bit. To me, the best albums cannot be described. Go ... read more
DAMN EVERY TRACK ON HERE IS LITERALLY PERFECT.
No, for real this time. What an addicting album! Nas' rapping is literally flawless. The producers cooked the boom-bap beats through and through. The cultural influence is enormous. Bars. Bloatless. I just have to listen to this album again, again, again...
It never gets old.
FAVORITE: NY State of Mind. Of course pretty much every song on here is perfect. But the NY State of Mind siren and piano loop are classic. The bars are timeless. I ... read more
On Section.80, Kendrick shows why he is the one to make arguably the two best albums in all of hip hop history. Kendrick addresses problems in his generation through a collection of anecdotes and experiences while tying it all up into a loose 4-person narrative with the "host"???, Kendrick, Tammy, and Keisha. It gets a bit messy, but this is my 3rd favorite Kendrick project based on pure quality alone.
FAVORITE: HiiiPoWeR. Perfect Song. Perfect J.Cole Beat. Perfect Outro. Perfect ... read more

NOT GOOD
There’s literally nothing in this album. Drake’s flows are monotone, he most definitely did not write a single verse, and the confrontational beats are beat into the ground over and over again. He can’t get over the beef. The only redeeming instrumentals of the “Make Them” songs are plagued by corny bars galore. Boring. Unfun. Cringey. Bloated as always.
Favorite track: “Dust”. OK beat switch and instrumental with OK bars. 5/10
