“and i can’t have fun if i can’t have you”
i really tried to give this album a chance instead of immediately jumping on the hate train but jesus christ this thing is a train wreck. the lyrics are unbelievably on the nose, there’s not a hint of nuance or subtlety to be found anywhere. also the amount of casual racism sprinkled through the entire project is just…insane?? at this point, TLOASG feels less like an album and more like Taylor’s official ... read more
“i could look you up and down all day”
okay i have to admit i was a bit of a hater when this first came out, but now that i've given it some time to simmer, this album is a lot of fun! maybe my opinion has been influenced by the tidal wave of Man’s Best Friend on my fyp, but whatever.
i’m not a huge fan of the slower, ballad-y songs, but idk maybe that’s just a me problem.

“it doesn’t have to be like this”
jeez, where do i even begin with this one.
i’ll preface what i assume will be my longest review thus far by saying first and foremost that Teens of Denial is a fucking blast. also that Unforgiving Girl is a banger and you guys just don’t get her like i do.
anyway, onto the actual review. this album is such an angsty and fun exploration of all the ugly, messy, awful parts of existing—but specifically getting older. ... read more
“i’ll be happy just to have known you”
this album makes me feel like i’m six years old again playing Freddi Fish on the family computer, mostly in a good way. a few tracks in particular (Lifelike, Something Comforting, Blossom) made me a little nostalgic and sad, but at the same time i think it’s pretty beautiful that an album released in 2021 can bring me so far back and affect me so deeply—whether that be positively, negatively, or in some other way that i ... read more
“keep on talking, i know how much you love it”
i mean it’s cute enough, but the audio quality is so terrible that i can’t in good conscience rate this anything above a 30. either way, it’s cool to see where Will came from production wise.
”you wouldn’t think having a good time would be so goddamn hard”
i remember being sixteen and riding my bike along the road every day while i listened to this EP on repeat. it doesn’t hit as hard as it did then, probably because it’s been played on loop in my brain so many times, but it’s still a really great listen. it’d feel blasphemous to rate this anything below an 80 considering these songs have served as the background noise of my existence for ... read more
“but if your heart was in it, i was glad to be your sacrifice”
i feel like this album tends to get lost/forgotten about amidst the sea of twin fantasies and how-to-leave-towns but it really is a beautiful (albeit gut wrenching) project. it’s a little hard for me to get through this album without getting sad, which is a big part of why i don’t find myself gravitating towards it very often, but it is really great.

“my love comes with my snot, i’m all in and he’s all out”
i mean, it’s alright. it just feels more like an indie RPG soundtrack than an Alex G project. definitely a step down from DSU but not terrible by any means.

“this is culturally inappropriate”
absolute masterpiece, this album is fucking fire

“a beaten dog, the snarling teeth, the face of god”
despite a weak start, this is such a fun display of classic midwest emo with an angry, experimental twist.
many of the songs read like angsty diary entries; they’re very direct and on-the-nose as opposed to the usual use of poeticism and metaphor that you’re used to in most genres of music. it’s a nice change of pace, although the longer songs do tend to drag at times.
overall, this is a solid album that ... read more
“i am not the boy you knew”
so so so very pretty, there isn’t a single song on here that i don’t love to pieces. Alex’s strained vocals juxtapose perfectly with the, at times, deceptively cheerful instrumentals and make DSU such an overall unique listening experience. the piano riffs bounce back and forth from energetic and borderline theatrical (Boy) to slow and gloomy (Waiting for You), but it’s done so well and manages not to sound too random or clunky. ... read more
“string the sinner by his wings”
i don’t find myself gravitating towards Trick very often, but it definitely deserves all the love it gets; this album is absolutely wonderful front to back. mellow, melancholy, and overall lovely, Alex G hit it out of the park once again, the crowd is completely unsurprised.
favorite tracks: Forever, String, Advice, People, Whale, Trick, Kute, Mary, Clouds, Adam, Sarah, 16 Mirrors

“you’re still in my view, my love”
such a good time, it’s impossible not to fall in love with this one. i adore how mellow and easy it is to listen to while simultaneously being full of so much love and experimental chaos.
favorite tracks: Baby!, (Referee), Rewind, Kindalove
least favorite track: (Freak It)
“rules are rules, made for fools, and you are no exception”
i wish that i liked this album more, but aside from a couple great tracks and fun instrumentals it’s just kind of a nothingburger imo. not bad by any means, just uninteresting.

“i am not your brother, i am not your lover, and there is nothing wrong”
Race is such a whimsical and sad nostalgia trip that never fails to bring me down and comfort me at the same time. each track feels like it’s simultaneously giving you a hug and punching you in the teeth. the xylophones and bouncy baseline remind me of elementary school music class and this listening experience as a whole just feels like a long day of playing hopscotch and scraping your knees on the ... read more
“i try to remember the wrath of the devil was also given him by god”
i enjoyed this album so much more than i expected to! such a delightful conclusion to mitski’s discog and a great way to spend 32 minutes :)
favorite tracks: Bug Like an Angel, The Deal, I’m Your Man
least favorite track: I Love Me After You
“it’s been you and me since before i was me”
this is the most fun i’ve had at any point in mitski’s discography so far. compared to the rest of her albums, Laurel Hell feels so cheerful and synthy that it almost gives me whiplash (in a good way). far too underrated and one of her best for sure.
favorite tracks: Working for the Knife, Love Me More
least favorite track: Should’ve Been Me
“just how many stars will i need to hang around me to finally call it heaven?”
the mixture of country and 80s synth pop was a fun choice, other than that i don’t really get a whole lot out of this one.
favorite tracks: Remember My Name, Me and My Husband
least favorite track: A Horse Named Cold Air
“and i’ll go to work, and i’ll go to sleep, and i’ll love the littler things”
god, this album is literally intertwined with my soul. mitski conveys sadness in a way that’s just so beautiful and cathartic, i could listen to her sing until i die. Puberty 2 is such a roller coaster of pining and motion sickness and everything good and bad, i don’t think i could ever articulate how much i adore it.
favorite tracks: Happy, Fireworks, A Loving Feeling

“i want a love that falls as fast as a body from the balcony”
good listen but definitely not one of my favorites, it just reminds me of being 14 and miserable. i like the rock elements a lot, they mesh well with the angrier vocals and make the softer songs hit a lot harder, but other than that i don’t really have a whole lot to say about this one.
