Radiohead - In Rainbows

so tasteful. this album evokes such unique emotions, every song is astonishingly beautiful. it experiments at moments but they always end up making the songs super interesting. each song is entirely unique and does something different and beautiful. they are very clearly seasoned musicians. i also love how faust arp is so nick drake inspired it scratches the fuck out of my itch.

best: jigsaw/bodysnatchers/nude/15 step

Elliott Smith - Elliott Smith

my favorite album of all time easily. unbelievably consistent songwriting. the songs are so intricate and thought through, the chord progressions are absolutely perfect. from a guitar standpoint, i have learned so much about music just from learning these songs. the guitar parts have a perfect balance between textbook music theory and blind innovation that comes from just moving shapes and changing tunings and seeing how they sound. the layered vocals and guitars make it so full. i could go on ... read more

Slowdive - Souvlaki

top tier album. production is perfect, the layered guitars are beautiful. the songs all are different enough that it is a stimulating experience, but they manage to be cohesive. the poppiness of the melodies works so well over such a lush sonic background. just a flawless dream pop album.

best: souvlaki space station/sing/when the sun hits/alison

Title Fight - Shed

the guitar work is so insane. i wouldn't change a thing about this album, its concise and samey but in an enjoyable way. the vocals are fitting for the sound they're going for, both singers sound great. there isn't a track that falls behind, they're all super strong.

best: crescent shaped depression/shed/kingston/27/stab

King Krule - The OOZ

ooziest shit ever. i remember when it started to click for me. i realized that its an album that is supposed to drag a little. its like sludge, tracks blend together. it has some more lively moments that are spaced out really well across the tracklist. unique jazz-influenced-but-not-limited-by guitar work that very much has its own sound.

best: midnight 01/ooz/slush puppy/a slide in

Bright Eyes - I'm Wide Awake, It's Morning

some of the best songwriting of all time, conor oberst has such great lyrics. sonically also stellar asf, love the pedal steel and how full some of the climaxes on it are (like poison oak). great mix in dynamics. does justice to simple folk chord progressions. really great.

best: land locked blues/poison oak/old soul song

Duster - Contemporary Movement
100

only duster can play a single chord for 2 minutes and still be fire. the lyrics are awkward and strange in a really desirable way. the guitar work is really memorable, which is something that this genre of music usually lacks. uniquely beautiful chord progressions. its very tasteful, no instrument ever does too much. they harnessed something really amazing with it.

best: me and the birds/the breakup suite/unrecovery/auto-mobile
