Critics' aversion to creative memorable albums while praising the same tired indie rock albums is something that truly makes me want to stop paying attention to the whole of the music scene entirely. If this is something that's been weighed as not really worth listening to, then why bother?
That being said, I wouldn't consider this a masterpiece or anything of the sort, but it is absolutely worth listening to for someone wanting a little variety in their music, ESPECIALLY in the rock genre. I ... read more
Less memorable than their previous material, and cleaner still, but not entirely worth avoiding. There's some good songs. Also they trick listeners by naming the first song "Second Song".... cruel
TVOTR keeps cleaning up their sound for some reason. They can write a few memorable songs, but their voices are the only things saving this from being a boring indie-pop-rock album.
It's exactly as good as the cover would lead you to believe.
Here are my favorite songs off of the album Sufjan Stevens invites you to: Come on feel the Illinoise by Sufjan Stevens.
Concerning the UFO Sighting Near Highland, Illinois, The Black Hawk War, or, How to Demolish an Entire Civilization and Still Feel Good About Yourself in the Morning, or, We Apologize for the Inconvenience, but You're Going to Have to Leave Now, or, "I Have Fought the Big Knives and Will Continue to Fight Them Until They Are Off Our Lands!", Come On! The last track on this album is insanity, I think they might have put it here on accident.
Uh hmm... I mean... well, it's like it's kinda like... uh... I mean if you listen to it, it's kinda like.. I don't know. It's kinda weird to describe, but I suppose I could kinda put it like it's as if you listened to uh... something that kinda makes you feel like you're listenin to ... uh... well I'm not exactly sure how to put it into the right words but it's a bit like it's kinda... uh.... It's on the tip of my tongue, yknow. It's kinda like when you think of a song that's a bit like... ... read more
I like the cover but the sound isn't really 'cockish' enough for my tastes. Too digital and warbly, and lots of yelling. I mean I guess if you use the black box cover it's more fitting. Not worthy of the dicking... not yet
"popular now" well damn how about that. 7 years later and still standin. It sounds similar to his last music, with some bleepin and bloopin changed around, but the song ideas are mostly similar. Im ready for whatever his new albums gonna be like. Needs more cowbell, tho
I think in this day and age we gotta learn to accept the truth. Black metal? Shit genre. Deafheaven? Shit band. And yet, when you combine the two, you get the best album to come out in 2015, ladies and gentlemen.
It's really impressive how such bland boring riffs and washy instrumentals can come off as so beautiful! The same tired ideas being used over and over, because they're so nice to hear every time, with a little bit of changes here and there.
And I'm not being sarcastic. Every lame ... read more
I can't believe Mark actually fucking killed a pitchfork writer and then wrote all of the gorey details in this folky indiey album... truly relentless. Takes a real son of a gun. "Walked down the street and I pet a little kitty cat"? What the fuck, does this guy have no self-control? Clearly not, since that track goes on for like 10 minutes, but that's just how the cookie crumbles. Overall I give Mark Kozelek a 2... out of 10

DAMON WHAT THE HECK ARE YOU FUCKING DOING, I CAIN'T EVEN BELIEVE THIS ALBUM EXISTS........ 500 TRACKS AND THEY ALL SUCK EXCEPT FOR A COUPLE OF THEM BUT OVERALL HAHA WHAT A SHOW THIS ONE WAS. SO IT STARTS WITH A PUMPIN JAM WITH A REALLY LOUD SCREAM IN IT, AND I HAD MY HEADPHONES ON SO LOUD IT BLEW MY EARDRUMS OUT, SO I COULDN'T EVEN HEAR THE REST OF THE ALBUM. MANY VISITS TO VARIOUS EAR DOCTORS LATER, I FINALLY GOT THE GODLY ABILITY TO LISTEN TO THIS PIECE OF SHIT AGAIN, THIS TIME ON "SAFE ... read more
Must be weird to come back to post-hardcore after so many years of Mars Volta fuckery, but then again, Antemasque exists, which if you haven't heard, is some catchy rock album they made a few years ago, which came 2 years after Noctourniquet, so it was kinda underwhelming, but it was also really catchy, but then again, so is every release these guys put out under Mars Volta or Antemasque or At the Drive In, so now there's a new At the Drive In for some reason, which might have been sparked by ... read more
