Silk Sonic - An Evening with Silk Sonic

An Evening With Silk Sonic showcases Bruno Mars & Anderson .Paak’s insane talent, presence, and chemistry together, and the result is FUCKING OUTSTANDING and some of the most fun music I’ve ever heard.

When this album was announced earlier this year, I was super excited. Bruno Mars has been someone who I thought was super talented and had a lot of potential and charisma, and I thought he had some great hits over the years, but he had never wowed me with a full body of work. On the other hand, while I thought Anderson .Paak was immensely talented, I had enjoyed many of his projects in the past. I did think he deserved more recognition in the mainstream though, and I thought this collaboration was a great way to hopefully do that. And the lead single “Leave The Door Open” greatly surpassed my already high expectations. It also became a really rare moment in music, where it seemed like EVERYBODY liked it and was rooting for Silk Sonic, and it was great to see. And while the next two singles may not have had the immense commercial success of “Leave The Dior Open”, both were also great tracks and had me ridiculously excited for this full album. So with the full album now here, I think it’s safe to say that this is a collaboration for the ages.

This album is special and is honestly near flawless. Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak have managed to absolutely nail this timeless and nostalgic sound while not losing their personality and charisma, and their performances throughout are consistently fantastic. This album can also be very funny (which is aided by the perfect narration from Bootsy Collins), and the way they pay homage to this classic sound while being self-aware and tongue-in-cheek about it is awesome. This album just makes me feel so happy, and I’m just blown away at how good this is. It’s albums like this that remind me how fun music can be, and I’m so glad that this is as good as it is.
