With DR. EV4L, Young Nudy shows why he is one of the more exciting names in trap currently with his murderous yet humorous brand of trap music.
I have enjoyed Young Nudy’s music in the past, and while I thought his collaborative project with Pierre Bourne was a flawed but enjoyable project, I didn’t think his last album was anything more than just decent and I have never really fallen in love with a Young Nudy project. And while this isn’t perfect and still has some flaws, this is the best Young Nudy project that I’ve heard for sure.
DR. EV4L isn’t perfect, but its the most consistent and concise project I’ve heard from Young Nudy. This album clearly is trying to go for a horror aesthetic similar to something you’d hear from 21 Savage, and while it may not be perfectly executed, it is certainly achieved for the most part. The production is also great throughout and only adds to this horror aesthetic. Young Nudy’s coldblooded, menacing & hilarious performances throughout the album are pretty great as well. Yeah, the album sometimes sometimes suffers from a lack of catchiness or sticky hooks, and there isn’t necessarily any song that blows me away, but the replay value is still very high on this album and makes for an enjoyable listen. And while I still see room for improvement, this is a very solid project that has only made me more excited for what Young Nudy can do in the future.
