Trippie Redd has been a frustrating artist for me. He clearly has potential, but he usually phones it in and favors quantity over quality. His albums also have tended to be pretty boring, bloated, generic, and uninspired. And on this project, it’s unfortunately kinda the same thing, even if it is decent and I do think it has more positive qualities about it than most of his other projects.
This album had a lot of potential, but it’s held back by some glaringly obvious flaws. To start, this album is way too long. There is absolutely no reason for this album to be 25 songs and over an hour of material. Cut this down to like 12-15 tracks and this would be manageable and would be more enjoyable. Second, while I like the fact that Trippie brought a lot of guests on for this, there are just too many features here. This is especially true when you consider how many of them phoned it in or were just not all that interesting. Third, while I like this rage and Playboi Carti-esque sound sonically, I don’t think it’s in the best hands here with Trippie and it gets a little stale after a while. Lastly, there are literally no fantastic highlights that I would say standout amongst Trippie’s best standalone tracks. So while I do like the production here and think it’s generally a pretty decent record, and it’s definitely far from Trippie’s worst project, this just doesn’t do much for me unfortunately.
