Kanye West - Donda 2
65

(After debating whether to review it or not, I’ve decided to just review it in its current state as the “V2.22.22 Miami edition”.)

In its current state, Donda 2 is a $200 mess coming out during one of the darkest, most tumultuous, and most polarizing periods of Kanye’s entire career, and while the music may have potential, it’s hard to shake off everything surrounding it while listening considering how much the music reflects it.

Let’s just get the obvious ... read more

EARTHGANG - GHETTO GODS
70

While I do like a lot of things about Ghetto Gods, it’s just not fully realized enough for it to reach its full potential. There are some solid highlights, but this just kinda feels like they’re still trying to figure out their sound somewhat. I do enjoy it quite a bit though, and I could see it growing on me even more with more listens.

Conway the Machine - God Don't Make Mistakes
80

God Don’t Make Mistakes is great and a really personal album that probably ends up being on the level of “From King To a GOD” for me and is up there with my favorite Griselda releases.

80

It’s the weakest of the three singles for me but I still like it and think it’s really fun. I’m still so excited for the album

Denzel Curry - Zatoichi
95

I think I like this even more then Walkin. This album is going to be insane.

Edit: HOLY SHIT AFTER LISTENING A FEW MORE TIMES I LOVE THIS SO MUCH. 90 to a 95

Beach House - Once Twice Melody
70

This is an album that will probably grow on me more as time goes on, but after sitting with it for a week I still am not getting as much from this as I feel I could, even if I do think it’s really good and has a lot of elements I like.

This is my first time listening to Beach House, and instead of listening to this as it was released in Chapters, I decided to wait. I kinda regret that though, as this is a lot to take in and I think listening to it in chapters would have helped.

Because ... read more

Jensen McRae - Happy Girl
85

My favorite new artist just put out a new single and finally announced her album on the same day. I’m a happy guy.

in all seriousness, this single has me SO excited. I wasn’t sure about the snippet of it she posted, but this is fantastic. I was afraid the production wouldn’t work, but this is some of the best sounding production she’s had so far. I’m really hoping this album can live up to her potential because if it does it will likely end up being my favorite ... read more

Oliver Tree - Cowboy Tears
60

Even if this isn’t bad and is pretty decent, I don’t think Oliver Tree and his label understand or care that his appeal was his meme persona COMBINED with his well written and produced songs. Because on Cowboy Tears, it just feels like they didn’t focus on the music much and instead cranked the persona up to a point where it becomes annoying and disingenuous and feels like it’s trying too hard to become a viral meme.

I used to be a pretty big Oliver Tree fan, and I ... read more

Big K.R.I.T. - Digital Roses Don't Die
60

Digital Roses Don’t Die may not be a super memorable listen, but it is still really enjoyable and has some great production.

I have heard good things about BIG K.R.I.T, but up until recently I had never listened to his music. But recently I did hear a few songs off of 4eva Is a Mighty Long Time, and I found them to be really enjoyable. I am excited to listen to that album at some point, but I was also excited to check this out. And even though people didn’t love the single ... read more

Yeat - 2 Alivë
55

“Osama Bin Laden my bro” - Yeat

This album from Yeat has some great production and some highlights, but it’s ultimately way too long, repetitive, and the songs blend together too much for it to be what it could have been.

Yeat has an insane cult fan base, and the memes around him and his music are very funny. But while I’ve found him funny, I haven’t really been all that crazy about the music I heard. I didn’t mind it, and I thought the production was ... read more

$NOT - Ethereal
60

Ethereal isn’t terrible, but it also isn’t really anything special either. It’s just decent.

I have never been impressed with SNOT’s music before, so coming into this I wasn’t expecting much. And while I still don’t love this, I do see more potential here and think this is overall pretty decent. The production is solid, and the features aren’t bad either. $NOT himself is probably the weakest part of this though, as he just doesn’t really have ... read more

2 Chainz - Dope Don't Sell Itself
50

Still patiently waiting for the day 2 Chainz fully reaches his potential on an album.

I want to love 2 Chainz’s music so bad, as I think he has talent and has had many fantastic features on other people’s songs for years now. He has the potential to put out a really good album, but he usually just does the bare minimum. And while I did mostly enjoy Rap Or Go To The League, even that album was very flawed and not as good as it could have been. So coming into this I was hopeful, but ... read more

Saba - Few Good Things
80

Few Good Things has a few flaws, but it’s ultimately a really solid project with some nice production and really good writing and performances from Saba.

I have never listened to CARE FOR ME in full, but at the time I listened to some songs from it and really liked the ones I’ve heard. I just unfortunately never got around to listening to the full album. I have been excited for whatever Saba did next though, and after a few years it’s finally here. And with it here, ... read more

Black Country, New Road - Ants From Up There
81

I just finished my first listen and this is amazing. I’m especially blown away by “The Place Where He Inserted The Blade”.

I enjoyed Black Country New Road’s last record, but it didn’t stick with me like it did for others and I didn’t really return to it often. I did love the first track “Instrumental” though, and it was actually one of my favorite songs of last year. I was hoping that I would love this new album like that, but after hearing the ... read more

Mitski - Laurel Hell
80

Laurel Hell is my first time listening to a full Mitski album, and it’s a really solid first impression.

I’ve heard great things about Mitski, so I was excited to listen to this. Also, I really enjoyed the singles for this album, so I was hoping I would enjoy the whole thing. And after listening a few times, I really like this. I’m not like blown away by it or anything, but the music here is just really well written and produced and there are quite a few highlights that ... read more

ROSALÍA - SAOKO
90

FUCK YES! THIS IS WEIRD AND I LOVE IT!

Motomami is one of my most anticipated albums of the year, and this is yet another great single from Rosalia that has me ridiculously excited for the full album.

Amber Mark - Three Dimensions Deep
80

Even though Three Dimensions Deep isn’t necessarily anything super original or unique, Amber Mark still comes through with an impressive and enjoyable R&B album with some great production and solid songwriting.

I first heard of Amber Mark in 2019 when I saw her at a festival and was really impressed by her performance. Then, last year I heard her singles “Foreign Things” and “What It Is”, which were two of my favorite singles of 2021. I wasn’t crazy ... read more

NLE Choppa - Me vs. Me
30

This was just boring and low-effort and I don’t care about it at all.

I’ve never been like a big NLE Choppa fan or anything, but I did think he was decent and usually brought a good energy and presence to his songs. He also does have some singles that I do really like, but I have never really been looking forward to new NLE Choppa projects. That was also the case for this, and after listening I have zero interest in his projects going forward. Maybe a single here and there, but I ... read more

Charli xcx - Beg For You
80

I really love Good Ones and New Shapes, and while this is probably my least favorite of the three singles, I do still really enjoy this. Rina’s performance especially sold me on the track.

"@Pankace I don’t think personality necessarily means an energetic delivery or that she’s switching it up. She very clearly is having fun and having a song called Princess Diana after the memes of her being modern day Princess Diana and having many of the lyrics that she does on here shows her personality to me. The production also at times has personality, but I don’t think she’s devoid of it just because she kinda does the same thing over and over."
