I’m actually pretty impressed with this posthumous release, as it celebrates Pop Smoke without being a complete money grab like some other posthumous releases in past years, and ends up being my favorite Pop Smoke record in the process.
I liked a lot of Pop Smoke’s bigger tracks, but I unfortunately never loved any of his projects. I thought the first posthumous release “Shoot For The Stars Aim For The Moon” was a pretty enjoyable album though, and was probably his best ... read more
What a beautiful album.
This is my first time listening to a Clairo project, and while I do think this is really good on first listen, I definitely need more time to sit with it because I know this is the kinda album that will definitely grow on me with each listen. The songwriting is great though, and so is the production from Jack Antonoff.
All Over The Place lives up to its title.
I had heard of KSI as a YouTuber, but I didn’t actually watch his videos and didn’t really know who he was until he started releasing music. When he released “Dissimulation” I was intrigued, as I saw some notable features and wondered what the YouTuber turned musician would sound like. And it was about what I expected it would be: a mediocre album with generic production, some boring performances from KSI, and phoned-in ... read more
Willow’s transition into pop-punk isn’t perfect, but it’s pretty solid and has some really enjoyable moments.
Willow was not an artist that was really on my radar, but I heard the single “t r a s p a r e n t s o u l” with Travis Barker earlier this year and was really impressed. I thought it was a great pop-punk track with a great instrumental and catchy refrain. I thought Willow’s vocals were the weakest part, but it didn’t really take away from the ... read more
This is definitely one of Kevin’s best solo tracks.
SLUGGER is the kinda direction I hope Kevin Abstract goes in going forward. I liked Arizona Baby, but I prefer this sound from him.The production on here is great, I absolutely love the energy the song has, and while $NOT isn’t amazing on here (his verse is solid though), I really like both Kevin and Slowthai’s verses. They both come through with great performances and help keep this song interesting. If we do end up ... read more
While this certainly is more lowkey and not as energetic as I expected, “Vince Staples” by Vince Staples is still a solid album with some great highlights.
While I was pretty familiar with Vince’s music and had heard many of his songs before, this album was the first time I had heard one of his projects all the way through, and this was certainly not what I was expecting. I was expecting some more energy and charisma, and this is actually a really lowkey and subtle album. ... read more
USEE4YOURSELF is a decent record, and nothing on here is terrible or anything, but this album is just not all that interesting or memorable and ends up being kinda average and forgettable at times.
Before this album I had heard a few of IDK’s projects, and I just had never been all that impressed with his music. I had seen potential in what he was doing, but he just had never really wowed me and I thought his music was just kinda boring. But after seeing the features on here and seeing ... read more
Last Year Was Weird Vol. 3 is yet another enjoyable project from Tkay Maidza that once again shows her insane potential as an artist.
While LYWWV2 wasn’t my favorite project of last year or anything, it was definitely one of the best and established Tkay Maidza as one of the most promising artists currently. The EP had great production and a lot of highlights, and I was hoping that Vol 3 would be on the same level. And impressively, for the most part I think it is.
Similarly to Vol. 2, ... read more
Post returns with a generic trap cut that showcases him doing his best Playboi Carti impression while trying to sound like everything else in this lane. And while It’s not the worst song in the word, it’s just ridiculously disappointing from Post.
It’s not the best thing in the world or anything, but it’s a solid pop song. The production is solid, it’s catchy, and they both sound good here.
It’s not my favorite of the singles, but it definitely has more personality and nails the aesthetic it’s going for
SHE JUST CAN’T MISS!
This album seriously has classic potential based off these singles. All of the previous singles so far for this album were great: Introvert is still my favorite, Woman is a great smooth track, and while Rolling Stone wasn’t amazing, it was a cool little detour and the beat change up was pretty well executed. And regardless of what level of great the singles were, the production on all three singles was some of the best so far this year. Little Simz’s ... read more
This album from Spellling is one of the best listens I’ve had in a long time. This album literally made me feel like I was floating.
This was my first time listening to a project from Spellling, and my first time ever hearing of her was when I heard “Little Deer” on Fantano’s New Music Stream and loved it. I didn’t listen to any of the other singles though, as I wanted to wait and hear them all in the context of the album, and wow I’m so happy with this.
As ... read more
What a surprise, the guy that came out with “Shape Of You” released another shitty single!!
Wow. Just wow. Not exactly sure how I feel about this yet, but Tyler is rapping his ass off all over this.
Edit: alright I’ve organized my thoughts, here’s the full review
Yet again, Tyler, The Creator has come through with another great album for his discography, and this time it’s a victory lap in album form.
Tyler, The Creator is one of the most intriguing and talented figures in music today, and he is one of my favorite artists. Flower Boy is my favorite album ever, and ... read more
Home Video is a beautiful and great album with some fantastically specific songwriting and a lot of diversity throughout the tracklist. And whether it’s a dark and sad ballad or a more upbeat track sonically, Lucy Dacus kills it regardless.
This was my first time listening to a Lucy Dacus project. I’m a huge Phoebe Bridgers fan though, as Punisher is one of favorite albums ever, so I was immediately intrigued to listen to this after hearing she was in a group with Phoebe Bridgers ... read more
While this may end up being a little disappointing as the first project in almost three years, and while it sounds like it could have been just some tracks he had laying around from his last project, it is a decent project regardless that puts Ski Mask’s talent and personality on display.
Ski Mask is a rapper that while I’ve never loved a project from him, I’ve always liked him as a rapper and had hope for his future projects. But we haven’t gotten a project since ... read more
While this is mostly on the level of Hot Pink, and while it may be more consistent and have fewer low points, it just doesn’t have as many highlights or as much personality, and ends up being a little generic and disappointing as a result.
Doja Cat had a huge 2020, as Say So was a monster hit, she had major collaborations with artists like Ariana Grande & The Weeknd, and she got multiple Grammy nominations. I also really liked her album, and also loved her “Tia Tamera” ... read more
