I was a big fan of Northsbest, Mosey’s debut album and a lot of the singles on there. I thought Mosey had mastered the catchy melodic trap formula with catchy hooks and bright production. But on his second album, all of that went out the window for the most part. But ever since the great Blueberry Faygo, Mosey has consistently dropped some solid singles. So what about this one?
Eh, I’m disappointed. This single is very standard and kinda boring. The hook didn’t grab me really ... read more
I first heard of Claud through Phoebe Bridgers, as Claud is signed to Phoebe Bridgers’s label “Saddest Factory”. I was excited to check this out and I’m really glad I did.
Super Monster can be a little standard for this bedroom pop sound, but it makes up for it with good songwriting. These songs on here are incredibly catchy and infectious and the hooks stay in your head. The production is solid, even though I think it could be a little more adventurous, and ... read more
When I saw this was coming out, I was hoping that the Nipsey contributions wouldn't be half-baked, but would instead showcase his talent. And it certainly does.
What It Feels Like is a great song with a stellar instrumental and a great performance from Nipsey. The "What It Feels Like" refrain gets a little too repetitive but it doesn't ruin the song for me at all. Jay-Z's verse was pretty solid, and I think the part about the Capitol was great, but I think he could have done a little ... read more
Well it’s happened. I really enjoy a Lil Tjay track.
I’ve always seen Tjay’s potential, but I never understood why suburban teen white kids loved him so much, as his music never seemed all that compelling. But on this R&B flavored track with a great instrumental, Tjay comes through with a performance that doesn’t necessarily blow me away but it doesn’t take me out of the song either. It’s exactly what it needs to be: catchy and vibey. Then add a very ... read more
Finally, a single from SL2 that goes hard. The previous singles had me worried, but this one has me hopeful for SL2.
The beat is fire and Meek delivered a great performance over it, but I wish Thug did more. The only other weak spot for me is T-Shyne, but even his part wasn’t terrible. Overall a banger and I’m hoping SL2 can be more like this.
This is an iconic song and this new version is fantastic
Edit: This has grown on me and I do find these songs being stuck in my head. I also think this EP is a perfect length, as it doesn’t feel like it drags on but it’s long enough to leave an impression. 70 to a 75
Peggy comes through with an underwhelming but still interesting body of work.
Peggy has been an intriguing figure in music the last few years, but he rarely makes music that I come back to often. I’ve enjoyed his music a lot, but I’ve been waiting for an album ... read more
A flawed but enjoyable project with some solid production and guests.
While I really liked Slowthai’s last album, I’m not as big a fan of his music or that album as others are. I thought it was a very good album, but I found slowthai to not always be the most appealing thing about that album for me. So how about this one? Did he improve?
Well I liked the singles for this album but only one of them was fantastic, and he typically ended up being the least exciting thing in them. I ... read more
*Rating only for the songs not on the OG album*
I love Future Nostalgia. It’s one of my favorite pop albums of the last 5 years, so I’m always gonna be interested in new Dua Lipa music. But while this isn’t bad, it’s just nowhere near that level of enjoyability for me.
These new songs are pretty good and enjoyable, but they don’t match the magic of the original and are kinda generic. Most of them kinda sound like they belong on that new Katy Perry album or ... read more
It’s pretty decent and has a very catchy hook, but it doesn’t really feel like it fits Future Nostalgia. Not her best single or anything, but still enjoyable.
KICKIN IN THE FRONT SEAT
SITTIN IN THE BACK SEAT
GOTTA MAKE MY MIND UP
WHICH SEAT CAN I TAKE??
This song is iconic and honestly a hyperpop remix makes complete sense. It’s so bad it loops back around and becomes good.
2020 was a fantastic year for indie-folk. From Phoebe Bridgers to Adrienne Lenker to Laura Marling to even Taylor Swift, it seemed like you couldn’t go wrong with this genre. So how did Hayley Williams do with it?
I liked Petals for Armor, but it had its flaws and didn’t feel fully realized at spots. I had no expectation of another record this soon, but I will say, I commend her for pulling this album together this quick. Unfortunately though, I can kinda tell at spots, because ... read more
Edit: this has grown on me a lot, 75 to an 85
Another solid single from Slowthai, but it’s another example of where the feature and the beat outshines him. The instrumental provides a nice atmosphere and Skepta does a great job on the track. If slowthai’s performance was a little better this could have been phenomenal, but as is it’s still pretty enjoyable.
A great debut that I only see growing on me as time goes on.
I didn’t listen to any of the singles before listening to this, so I wasn’t exactly sure what to expect. And I’ve wanted to take my time with this album because while I do really like it, I don’t have much to say about it that I feel like hasn’t been said and I thought maybe with even more listens I’d be able to articulate them better. So after a week, are my thoughts any clearer?
Well not really. ... read more
-5 for that Fortnite bar.
Otherwise this is a very solid single. I've been very critical of Vic and Chance's recent music but they both did a good job on here. Instrumental was nice, topic and lyrics were good, and I liked Wyclef Jean's additions as well. Let's hope their music going forward is more like this, because they have talent but almost never capitalize on it.
Man what is 03 Greedo doing on this track? The beat isn't bad but it's pretty boring and Wiz Khalifa phoned in his verse.
Never heard anything from this group, but I really enjoyed this. Has me intrigued to check out more of their stuff.
It’s not one of their better songs, but it’s still pretty decent. The hook leaves a little to be desired, but the beat is pretty good and the song has a nice vibe. Hoping in the future they can recapture some of the magic of the 88GLAM tape though.
Nah Gerald fuck off. I’m not gonna sit here and let you and Chris Brown ruin Return Of The Mack. Did Mark Morrison really need the money?
Return Of The Mack is one of my favorite songs ever, but this incorporation of the song is lazy and uninspired. The sample isn’t incorporated uniquely or anything, and there is no tie in to the original. They just took the original beat and pitch shifted it down and added a few drum sounds and called it a day. And Gerald’s verses are ... read more
