Twenty One Pilots has good work prior to their 2018 album, but it's typically carried by its lyricism or storytelling as the production serves as nothing but necessary support. In "Trench", every aspect from writing to ambience is highlighted, cohesive, and extremely well done, making it an equally incredible listen for any level of fan. Newcomers can bask in the atmospheric production---which communicates feeling on its own like few previous tracks from the band have managed to, ... read more
A significant strength of the band's earlier albums---"twenty one pilots" and "Vessel"---came from the open, general conversation of mental health and the associated struggle. "Blurryface" makes much less of an effort to extend its sentiment, keeping major points of songs vague and obviously personal. Mixed with the addition of somewhat unclear lore, the record feels closed off to its listener, denying them full understanding and relatability. Earlier albums ... read more
With "Vessel", Twenty One Pilots finds their footing, meshing the successful aspects of their self titled record and the desire within "Regional at Best" to elevate the sound.
The vulnerability from their earliest album rears itself here, but it's emphasized by upbeat production and energetic performance in a form of blatant recognition. The struggle isn't hidden, it isn't anything to be ashamed of, and it isn't unique to Tyler. It's things we all ... read more

Its clear that there is something of substance here---as the chosen few songs that were remastered onto Vessel are some of my all time favorites from the ... read more
Tyler has undoubtable skill when it comes to communicating exactly what he's feeling almost flawlessly. As long as you take the time to listen and read the lyrics, the emotion and intention just hits you, even though it's laced through metaphor. The visuals are vivid, the sense of helplessness is strikingly genuine, and the openness of it all is incredibly impressive. You really get the sense that Tyler is not only sharing his experience, but inviting the listener to relate and work ... read more
