dude i wrote a wohle long ass review bruh and I changed the scores without uploading the new review, anyway
just gonna summarize everything I wrote
balloon
- was one of the tracks I hated instantly on first listen, me and ***** were like "dude what is this goofy ass shit lmao", he still hates it but I love it now, tyler's verse with the vocal effect is pretty good, and doechii did an amazing job with her feature
tyler released some of the best tracks as the snippets
st chroma (FAV)
- one of tyler's best openers
noid
- pretty good, 2nd half catchy "left shoulder right shoulder left shoulder look"
thought I was dead (FAV)
-banger, thought Kendrick would be here but scHoolboy Q is GREAT on here
moving on to the non-singles/snippets
rah tah tah
-this is literally a CMIYGL song, rough and grimy
darling I
-sweet sounding, reminds me of something off of IGOR
-teezo feature is great, love the refrain "keep falling keep falling"
hey jane (FAV)
-one of tyler's best tracks ever, love the instrumental especially near the end where it escalates along with tyler's delivery, it adds a lot of tension and the release is fantastic, a wonderful emotional ride
I killed you
-fun
judge judy
-freaky as hell, but sounds majestic as fuck
sticky
-love this absolute banger of a track, the chorus is great which makes me not mind that each feature only has like 4 fucking bars
take your mask off (fav)
-really great story telling track reminiscent of a sing about me, in the way that he raps from various different perspectives about how people should stop trying to fit in molds instead of being their own person. pretending to be something you're not for so long and then reaping the consequences. i love how the last verse is about his own life and how while he preaches in this song about acting without a mask, he's just as flawed as the rest of us and he hasn't completely acted with no costume on
tomorrow
-really emotional cut reflecting on his life now that he's in his 30s, nothing more to say
like him
-this song's progression is so beautiful, from the piano to the airy spacey guitars to the synths at the end leading to this wonderful emotional climax that makes me wanna cry
I hope you find your way home
-great closer, feels like he's just letting us catch up on how he's feeling at this current moment and saying "thank you for visiting chromakopia"
my general gripes with this album
while the songs do transition well I don't really think this album comes off with like one singular theme you can get out if it, its pretty messy
the soundscape is not unique, while not necessarily a bad thing, some of these songs feel like they could be placed on past projects without any issue and its not as adventurous as id expect from tyler
though even with all that tyler still delivers an amazing final product, and obviously my opinion is still subject to change
