NF - CLOUDS (THE MIXTAPE)

1.  CLOUDS

Clouds is the second single to drop before the tape released. This is the track where I knew this tape was going to be something special. This is an  extremely cinematic opener. It's the way that his flow starts as a whisper that builds into a more and more intense rage as the track goes on. It's not just his delivery, it's this amazing production that builds from start to finish too. There's so much power being thrown around in such a delicate way here. The ... read more

When I first heard Future Nostalgia, I regrettably chalked it off as just a generic radio pop album designed for soccer moms. I reviewed it positively but the more I heard it the more it actually grew on me. I totally get it now. Her powerful voice blended with catchy disco beats are addictive. The album ended up taking my #15 spot in my best of 2020 albums list.
Now Dua has decided to release an ... read more

It doesn't get much more classic than Paid In Full. If you know anything at all about old school lyricists who paved the way, you've heard of this album.
This album is packed full of forever classic hits. In 1987 it was unheard of to be using these complex, internationally rhyming syllable ryhme schemes that Rakim uses here. From the very first track , "Ain't No Joke", you're getting bars ... read more

I was pretty much first introduced to Slowthai just a couple years ago when he dropped "Nothing Great About Britain" in 2019. I thought it was a great UK grime album. It didn't blow me away like it did for a lot of people, but it was enough for me to keep tabs on him for his next project. So here we are.
The album starts off a little slow with most of the weaker tracks being on the first ... read more

I'm always excited for anything new when it comes to Jpegmafia. It took me awhile to grow into his super glitchy, explosive yet vibey sound. He's definitely something unique in hip hop right now.
That being said, I really can't help but be quite disappointed by this new EP. I'm not used to Jpeg being this mellowed out and passive. What happend to the experimental glitchy production I was talking ... read more

In the first of my series of Classic Reviews, I bring you my thoughts of the legendary Self-Titled project by Nature By Nature.
In my opinion, this is one of the most important hip hop albums of all time. The lead MC of group, Treach helped pull the group ahead of their time. Nobody was doing flows like this. It's such a trip to hear Treach sort of having to explain what he's doing with his flows ... read more

It's about time I review a Devin The Dude project. It's funny, I always have random tracks by him shuffling around in my playlists, but I keep missing his album drops. Well not this time!
Devin once again shows he's a master at blending comedy with smooth jazz-esque hip hop. His flows are so laid back and chill that you barley notice when he deadpan slides the most hilarious joke into a bar. You might ... read more

This is an album that released back in March that slipped through the cracks for me. Not surprisingly in retrospect now after listening to it. If this album were a Starburst flavor, it would probably be potato. This album will likely end up in my rhetorical "Incase I need an example of average sounding hip hop" folder.
There's just so few talking points here and I don't want to bore ... read more

This week marks 14 years since Common dropped my favouite project from his discography. In a world of conveyer belt trap and too many Lil Short-Bus rappers to name; sometimes it's more refreshing to go back in time instead of forward.
"Be" is a timeless classic at this point. It's such an incredible vibe album with golden fluid beats. Common might be the most charismatic and down to earth ... read more

Guys, I really tried to like this one. I get so much heat for criticizing trap so much. Unfortunately yet again, I fail to see the appeal.
The best part about this project is the production and her ability to ride the beat. Not every artist can do that so I'll give her credit where credit is due. Her flow is decent and at least the autotune and vocal effects are pretty minimal.
Honestly I can't ... read more

I haven't heard any of the trio's other projects prior to this one.( I know, I Know). This project is my first taste of the group aside from a single or two.
This album comes off very meta and fourth wall breaking. Especially the track "Rap Song Tutorial". A very organic and clever concept for a track. You hear them googling and asking Siri how to make a rap album. The song plays like a ... read more

Legendary Alternative Nerd-Rock band, Weezer Is back once again. I don't review a lot of rock music but it may surprise some people that I'm a long time fan of Weezer.
OK Human shows elements of the old Blue Album Weezer that we know and love, but at the same time things get a little wacky. This album was written in 2019, but it feels a lot like a quarantine album. For every bright, happy, popping, sunny song, there's ... read more

Lil Skies is one of those artists I've known about for awhile but never really investigated. After listening to this album though, I still don't really have much to say. Unfortunately Skies just gets lost in a sea of rappers that sound just like him. After listening to this album my impression of him is litterally: "NAV, but not quite as stupid or boring".

Ashnikko is an artist I've never heard of before listening to this album, so I had no idea what I was getting into. Oh boy, what an album to jump into blind. I'll say this; this is one of those albums that I don't exactly love, but I can see why a lot of people do. I'm probably just about the farthest thing from the target audience with this one.

I gotta say I've never been the biggest YG fan, especially his last album in 2018. Since it's release there are about 2 songs I've bothered to return to and it was mostly for the features. However I see the appeal. I'm not trying to hate.
I do think this new album is a bit better. The first track "Hard Bottoms & White Socks" is great for not much but the beat. I feel a similar way ... read more

Slowthai is a UK rapper that I've been previously unfamiliar with before hearing this album. I believe this is his first commercial album and I'm not sure what he's done before this release.
The album is immediately grimy yet entertaining. Slowthai definitely has a unique style and I can see him having a voice in hip hop. His delivery is very bold and sort of screachy at times, which helps add to ... read more

When Ifirst heard Ta1300 last year I didn't know why people loved it as much as they did. I liked it. I gave it an 8/10 but it wasn't AOTY material. It grew on me a lot though. In fact I had to update my review and put a 9/10 on it.

Okay it's been over a week since I've reviewed anything, but I'm back. What a way to come back though. This future EP...Oh, this EP. It's not nice. It's real, real, bad guys. Please save me.
So at this point I've basicly come to expect this sort of 100% autotune BS niché that he's into. Usually he'll at least have a decent flow, some substance, a decent feature; SOMETHING?! there's absolutely ... read more

Tyga comes from Lil Wayne's Cash Money label. This is his return after a bit of a hiatus. I've never really made been the biggest Tyga fan though. Unfortunately this album does nothing to change that. If you're going to call your album Legendary, it better not be medicore.
The album contains a handful of nice club bangers if you're into that. Nice flows with generic bars aimed to put woman in a mood ... read more
