Typical Foetus peak. Most of the songs are simply incredible, I absolutely love the direction he would take with blending genres/styles that you typically wouldn't expect to be fused together (plus making them different and interesting every time). When listening, the swing aspect of this really reminded me of Gash, and well, I adore Gash, but this album perfects the sound even more. It's far less dirty (in terms of the distinguishability of the instruments, as in Gash it all kind of ... read more
THIS SHIT IS FUCKING AMAZING. I don't have much to say honestly. This is just unlike anything I've heard before, and honestly reflects the cover art, the music feels almost surreal and simply gorgeous. Fucking hell, I might be a glazer but oh my god Mick Karn's playing of the fretless bass (and all the woodwind instruments) just shines so much, it's so beautiful. As well, Peter Murphy's vocals are perfect for this music, they sound so cohesive with the instrumentals. ... read more
Kinda boring... I did enjoy listening to it but I wouldn't revisit the majority of these songs. I'm not a big fan of art pop so I didn't expect to like this too much anyway; this music is almost a little too serious for me, if that makes any sense. It's serious and not very self-indulgent, paired with lots of boring instrumentals. This did have its highlights though, such as Swing and My New Career, but too many of the songs dragged on for far longer than they really needed ... read more
Holyyyy bass lines on Rhodesia and Suburban Berlin π€€π€€π€€ Mick Karn so goated. VERY enjoyable album, luckily the first track was the only miss on here. Oh those groovier songs with those amazing bass lines...
Swans' industrial stuff if it was good or something idk I've never really listened to Swans
(Holy fuck Descent into the Inferno made me tear up that song is too good)
Listened to this because of the goat (John McGeoch), and I mean, I enjoyed it. This isn't entirely my type of music, I don't feel super connected to gothic rock so I don't see myself ever revisiting most of these songs, however, I found myself enjoying this more and more as I listened. I really liked the vocals, and the instrumentals were beautiful too, but it just wasn't all that interesting to me, solely because I don't feel very connected to this music. I don't ... read more
I want to like Japan, I really do, but it seems like I don't like this direction they took, because wow, this was NOT it... Some of these songs were really pleasant to listen to, such as Fall in Love With Me and In Vogue, and I would have absolutely no issue with this album if all the songs sounded like that. I love music that just sounds pleasant to listen to, without many intricacies or complex atmospheres, but it's also very easy to make music like that uninteresting, which most of ... read more
The unfortunate fall off of Magazine after John McGeoch's departure from the band... This album was alright, it just didn't have that much personality and got really repetitive by the end.
I think I like Magazine π€
I've listened to this album before, sometime last year, and I remember finding it boring. Not sure what I was on back then, because this is NOT boring at all, this is such a fun new wave album. Anyways, I don't have much to say because I'd just be repeating myself from my previous reviews. My favorite songs on here were Sweetheart Contract and A Song From Under the Floorboards (the John Peel Sessions version is 100x better though).
Upon a relisten, I must say that this is an incredible album. I have to talk about Cut Out Shapes again, that song is just so gorgeous throughout its entire runtime. How were Magazine so good at writing such addicting songs? I swear there's at least one on every album. Also, I want to say Permafrost is just so hauntingly beautiful, and encapsulates the whole atmosphere of the album very well, it's so cold and detached; a perfect ending. Anyways, Magazine is for sure one of my favorite ... read more
Jerky Versions of the Dream isn't anything fascinating, but it's such a pleasant new wave album that I couldn't help but enjoy every second of this release. As with anything Howard Devoto related, I loved the vocals so much, and the instrumentation was quite simple but it had lots of small details that made the listen so interesting. The one thing I didn't really like were the backing vocals that were present in some of the songs, they just kind of added nothing and were ... read more
Apparently I've never rated or reviewed this album. It's also been a LONG while since I last gave this release a listen. Anyways, wow, I completely forgot how much I love this album, it sounds so ahead of its time, but at the same time so very 70s. I adore the instrumentation on all of these songs, but of course the thing that truly separates this from any other album is Howard Devoto's vocals. I genuinely can't put it into words how much I love the expressiveness in his ... read more
I mean this EP isn't anything crazy, it doesn't really contain any special ideas, but it's just quality music that I did enjoy quite a bit. I also want to point out that the atmosphere of these songs was especially pleasant.
Yo why was the goat still cooking up peak in 2017 π₯ΉβοΈ
Hooked and Republic are some pretty good industrial songs, but I do prefer the original db9d9 version of Divine. Overall this is just an enjoyable industrial EP by the guy who was in one of the best industrial bands oat!
Fuck Paul Draper, but man, I will never be able to deny that literally anything this guy made/was part of before his solo career is fucking amazing.
Unfortunately this EP was quite boring, the songs with vocals were significantly better than the ones without them. I still enjoyed most songs at least a little bit as this type of electro-industrial sound is really good, it just gets repetitive quite fast.
This is an alright digital hardcore album, but I feel like I've heard this type of sound before in every synth punk/digital hardcore album I've listened to, and it's just nothing too special for me. What I do want to point out though is that the harsh vocals were REALLY good, I absolutely loved them, but this sort of fully digital production just isn't my thing. It's not really memorable as there's so much going on, and it just sounds too digital if that makes ... read more
