Five Easy Hot Dogs

Mac DeMarco's 'Five Easy Hot Dogs' is quite the switch up for the singer-songwriter, instead creating an instrumental album that lacks the charm of his previous work.

This is likely the first release of 2023 from an artist with some actual gravity in the music industry, and it's not very memorable. There's nothing quite bad about any of these instrumentals, it's just that there's such a lack of anything interesting that I'm finding a hard time coming up with anything to say. It's like a slow roller coaster with no turns, no loops, no drops: just start to finish simplicity.

Don't mistake the simplicity for bad music necessarily, but it's hard to feel satisfied with this. Surely this is just an appetizer, something to hold us over until the next LP coming later this year... right?
