boygenius - True Blue

boygenius is made up of singer-songwriter trio Phoebe Bridgers, Lucy Dacus, and Julien Baker. I'm currently unfamiliar with the latter two, but have just recently listened to Phoebe Bridgers. Her album 'Punisher' has immediately become my favorite record of 2020 from what I've heard of that year.

True Blue is a subtly bold indie rock song that speaks about an really, really healthy relationship. The partners in this relationship bring out the best in each other and aren't competing to one-up each other in arguments, as so many toxic couples do. There's a strong sense of understanding and respect.

It's a beautiful track, and the discovery of these three's collaborative efforts instantly makes their upcoming album one of my most anticipated of the year. Maybe if I wasn't such an emotional wreck I'd enjoy this track even more, but it makes me want to throw up thinking about happy relationships right now :)
