William Basinski - A Shadow in Time

Reading an interview with William Basinski, I found that there is a huge difference between what I think this sounds like and what William Basinski intends it to sound like. That was what really put me off this album. I was so immersed in it and when I found out that it had nothing to do with everything I imagined, I was frankly pretty disappointed. I feel that Basinski failed to create a consistent picture inside the head of the listener by just saying that the loops are just, and I quote, “Some old rotten things that the cat in New York had chewed up.”, completely devaluing his own project. I was about to give it a 85-90, but I just can't give it anything now. With ambient music, there must be some kind of picture that the artist wants to paint in order for it to be compelling to listen to.
