Half-baked. The melodies just aren't there. Big fan of Charley's music, but Charley missed on this one, unfortunately.
Watched a video recently where they were debating over what the best rock song of the 21st century is. This would be my pick.
It's pretty ironic that their best album (IMO) since Turn Blue is where they're like, "yeah man we basically just threw this together, the mixing is bad, etc... whatever" It's like, guys, this is exactly what we've been asking for.
I hate that is being looked down upon for being a covers album. Don't get me wrong, it would be great to have original songs that carry the same vibe as these, but no cover here is a carbon copy of its original, and much of the ... read more
No this is actually fire. I'd say I'm a pretty picky new music enjoyer but I like this quite a bit. I do kind of wish this was an original song but I'll take what I can get, and if it's this, that's fine by me. This track alone is better than their last two albums combined.
Unfortunately loyal to the "mid" moniker. As always, cool, but nothing memorable.
It's good but it's not why I like Charley Crockett. Good melodies, although a bit repetitive, and composition but this is toeing the line of being just a regular country song (bro country isn't regular country). I'm a fan of his music because of songs like "Make Way for a Better Man" or "Alamosa." That being said this is still a good song, I just feel like he can do better, or make it more interesting.
I'm pretty sure this is the second time I've listened to this album in its entirety, I just don't remember. That pretty much sums it up. This album is the definition of background music. It's not bad, it's just not memorable whatsoever. "Westway" was the most interesting track here, although it ironically happens to be one of the slower songs on this album. These guys do have their second album coming up this year, so maybe that will be more exciting. ... read more
Another really impressive debut alt-rock album this year. I've been tracking this band for a couple of months now and the LP didn't disappoint whatsoever – Fontaines DC, yet superior. Similar overall sound (with the addition of a surprisingly awesome and fitting accordion), but better melodies. What more could you ask for? Big fan of this album and I'm glad to see some bands starting to realize with the current state of rock music, you don't really need to reinvent the ... read more
Enjoyable, energetic, nothing revolutionary. The post-punk elements in a few of these songs were a nice surprise but I think "Automated Response" is my favorite nonetheless.
Probably my favorite album in quite a while. Great instrumentals, thoughtful compositions – I love it. The one thing I think they're missing are (better) melodies, which would normally be a bigger issue to me but everything else is so good it just doesn't seem like as big of a deal, somehow. I'll say my favorite song now is "Up the Ante(lope)," although I genuinely enjoyed this whole thing. Super cool stuff all around.
Don't love the screamy vocals towards the end but I do love the melodies in this song. They have a kind of futuristic vibe to me, idk. I would say this is their best track though. If I were to listen to Linkin Park, this is the song I'd pick.
Doesn't really add much to the original version by George Thorogood & The Destroyers, but regardless, I'm very happy to hear TBK sounding like this again.
Genuinely one of the best albums ever made. Technical but melodically excellent. Hard hitting but never lacking creativity. So consistently great.
If there's one thing that I truly hate in life, it's spoken word. A stark contrast between post-punk, so that's a bit of a bummer because I wanted to like this a lot. Some good guitarring and the overall sound is cool here though. I will be listening to their other stuff now in hopes of finding better tunes.
Flames. Im glad I asked my mom to buy me this CD as a developing gigachad because this is nearing peak 2000s hard rock. Could be one of the more consistent albums of the latter half decade in general.
"Here Comes My Girlfriend" is cool, but it's really nothing to write home about and the rest definitely isn't.
