Geese immediately caught my eye as an incredibly important and talented outfit, adding an unabashedly psychedelic, Gen-Z, twist to southern and punk rock. I couldn't stop listening, and now I can't get enough of it. 3D Country's concept is impeccable: A cowboy searching for the meaning of love amid the end of the world. The subtle, nuanced narrative twists and spins throughout each track, building a world where love is both a person and an abstract. The cowboy is caught in the ... read more
Tyler continues to evolve in his production, bringing us some of the most immensely gorgeous experimental hip-hop tracks of the year. Chromakopia tackles themes of the uncertain future, and how Tyler's youth has spurred many of those uncertainties, but the overall concept and worldbuilding of Chromakopia left me wanting more.
Sabrina brights up the world with some of the most sweetly produced pop music of the year, but not all of her bangers strike the same chord with me.
The cooly-colored angst of glaive is only something that can capture the hearts of a select few, myself being one of them. He brings some of his brightest production, and also some of his worst. glaive's insistence on leaning on this emo-pop style is something that eventually ruin him if he doesn't continue to evolve.
Sadly, glaive's style is something that continues to shift away from a place that I enjoy. Nevertheless, I'm glad to see kurtains appear on this record.
Faye's somber self-titled record swoons me with her excellent indie girl country riffs and the devasting melancholy of her love songs.
This is a baffling record that tries to build a concept from the scraped-up musings and freestyles of a passed Juice WRLD. It disrespectfully tramples the tragedy of Jarad's passing by unnervingly blending narratives of addiction and eternity.
Atlanta Millionaires Club contains Faye's best work in the jazz-infused country goodness of tracks like Kingston and Jonny, but staggers most notably in its other tracks.
A shaky return for Faye that retains some of her usual charm, but lacks the same level of "it" factor Faye has brought in previous releases.
Faye Webster exudes "I'm just a girl" excellence, weaving country and soul into her most consistently great album to date.
What's Going On is one of the pinnacles of art, a concept album that so hopefully captures the repeated depravity of man and our need for salvation. Marvin Gaye's words ring true today just as loudly as they did in 1971. God rest his soul.
The world of brakence's hypochondriac is not for every listener. Though many have challenged Randy's approach to harsh production and his hit-or-miss lyricism, hypochondriac still stands firm as a cleverly nuanced concept album close to my heart.
The character of brakence is caught in a turmoil of pain brought on by the probing of interdimensional beings with digital influence. The pain makes the process of making art nearly impossible, but only in the eventual death of brakence can ... read more
The character of IGOR captures your attention from the very first 24-second-long note. Tyler crafts his most vibrant world yet, weaving soul, electronic, and hip-hop into one of the most inventively produced concept albums you'll ever hear.
Phil Elverum creates a ghostly universe that challenges your understanding of what music can accomplish and conjures a deep melancholic catharsis in those who can hear the haunting call of Mount Eerie.
A deeply chilling, personal fantasy contemplating the purpose of living and loving.
