Sufjan Stevens - Javelin
90

I have no words for this. It's just beautiful

For a first taster of Sufjan Stevens, this was incredible. The whole album from top to bottom is nothing but pure magic and bliss. For starters, the production of Javelin is soft, beautiful, sad, and angelic. While it is mostly a folk album, I like how Stevens adds some ambiance and electronic elements to some of the tracks. I think it adds to the subversive experience and overall heavenly feel of the album. Some of my favorite tracks sonically ... read more

Animal Collective - Sung Tongs

Bro misspelled Sung Thongs

I'm not sure if this is a hot take or not, but I actually think Sung Tongs is Animal Collective's best album. I obviously enjoyed some of their other records, but this album was the one that completely took my attention. Everything about it is amazing and honestly a little better than everything else I have heard from them. I don't think I comment on the vocals from Animal Collective, mainly because I didn't find anything to talk about. But here, they're really good. ... read more

Tkay Maidza - Ring-a-Ling

Another hard banger, but a little more catchy. Just so smooth and fun, man

Tkay Maidza - Silent Assassin

I don't know why I forgot to review these singles, but here we are

This shit goes hella hard. Flume's production is fucking awesome, and Tkay sound like an absolute badass. Shit has me hyped for the new album

Animal Collective - Merriweather Post Pavilion
80

Brief Review:

What the fuck. Is the album cover moving?!

If I was listening to this album high, I think I would be losing my mind. But sadly, I don't know anyone who has that good shit. Still, I really liked this album. The production on this album is absolutely weird but great. It's not complicated, and yet there is so much detail in each track. From the watery effects on Bluish to the soft and almost slimy keys on No More Runnin, each track has so much depth and personality, in a way that ... read more

Animal Collective - Isn't It Now?
70

Brief Review:

They didn't even specify what is now

I'm pretty sure ya'll know the gist by this. Animal Collective is yet another band I haven't listened to before. I don't know how I discovered them, but all I knew was that their music can be very weird sometimes. And yeah, this album is pretty weird. Is it their best? No, not really, especially after going through their entire discography and seeing how creative they can get. However, Isn't It Now? still has some some great moments to ... read more

Code Orange - The Above
60

Brief Review:

Well, okay

This album isn't bad by all means. It's just sort of... nothing. I don't really get anything from this album, which is kind of surprising and sad. I really enjoyed their last 3 albums, which were full of chaotic energy and amazing instrumentation. On The Above, some moments feel overdramatic and even uninspired. There's some cool instrumentation and hard moments in the mix, but then you have these switch ups, especially on Never Far Apart, that don't work. I find ... read more

Oneohtrix Point Never - Replica

Me looking in at the mirror after I get circumcised

Replica was the album that I was dying to hear. When I saw the album cover, I was immediately intrigued and wanted to know what the record sounded like. And honestly, it was everything I wanted it to be. This is by far OPN darkest album, atmospheric wise. This album is void of any happiness, feelings, and life. It feels empty and lonely. I find it amazing that OPN was able to create an album that feels lonely and depressing. The samples he ... read more

Oneohtrix Point Never - Garden of Delete
80

This album cover looks like someone tried to draw a dick while blindfolded

Pretty wild record. Way different from Again, which I really like. The atmosphere on Garden of Delete is a lot more moody than Again, which was more beautiful and orchestrated. The praise is also very sharp and loud, to the point where I had to lower my headphones so my ears wouldn't bleed out. But that's why I really like this record. While it does have its slower moments, the moments I really like are when it goes ... read more

Oneohtrix Point Never - Again
80

Imagine this album cover, but with the belts squeezing on your dick

Oneohtrix Point Never is another artist that, you guessed it, I have never listened to before. Yeah, this whole month has been me listening to new artists, which is honestly pretty great. However, unlike the many new other artists I've listened to, I didn't listen to anything from OPN. Literally, the only reason I decided to check him out was because I liked the album cover of Replica, which I will review. So I was basically ... read more

Is it weird that I'm not reacting disgustingly to the album cover? I think something is wrong with me πŸ˜…

I mean, The Alchemist produced this album, so I obviously had to check it out. And I'm glad I did, because it's so good. Again, both Woods and E L U C I D work so well as a duo, combining each others strengths to create such an experience. Both of them also sound way more aggressive and darker on HARAM than on WBDTS, which already sounded pretty dark. The lyrics also sound way more grim, ... read more

Armand Hammer - We Buy Diabetic Test Strips
90

We scaring the hoes and attracting the diabetics with this one

What a great way to get introduced to Armand Hammer. I obviously knew who Billy Woods was, but E L U C I D was a whole different story. I didn't know what's his style was and how he was going to compare against Woods. But at the end of the album, I pretty much forgot about that thought. Both Billy and E L U C I D work amazingly together, complimenting each others styles. I really love how their flows sound dirty, which is ... read more

Doja Cat - Scarlet
50

Brief Review:

Honestly, it's not that bad. There's a couple of tracks on this album that really have some cool production, like Often. I also thought Doja's singing was pretty good. Her flows were nice as well. Aaaaaaand that's about it. The lyrics range from being mind numbingly boring to just bad, some of the other tracks have basic ass production, and Doja has no personality on this album. The personality she did have on previous albums was destroyed through her own stupid tweets. Overall, ... read more

yeule - Glitch Princess
80

Honestly, Nevermind. They were suppose to be a Certified Bitch Princess, but they instead became a Glitch Princess with a big FATD. At the end of the day, it's Her Loss

While not as strong as softscars or Serotonin II, Glitch Princess is still a great album that is backed up by a pretty interesting yet depressing concept about a robot learning what it's like to be human, only they're learning the ugly and disgusting emotions of a human. The first track, My Name is Nat Cmiel, already makes it ... read more

yeule - Serotonin II
90

WHERE'S SEROTONIN I and III!! 😑
I NEED MORE OF THIS BEAUTIFUL ASS SHIT!!!!

God damn! I honestly didn't know an album could get this beautiful. But after listening to softscars, I'm not surprised. Unlike softscars, which had its instrumentally heavy moments, Serotonin II goes for a more ambient pop direction, using synths as its orchestration. And man. My ears were cumming throughout the entire album. This album is nothing but gorgeous. Although before I talk about the production, let me ... read more

yeule - softscars

yeule is my new mommy now (> w <)

yeule is yet another artist that I've been wanting to check out for so long. I know Serotonin II would've been a better place to start, but I felt like it'd be better if I started with the most recent release, which is softscars. And HOLY FUCK! This album blew my expectations out of the fucking ocean! From production to lyrics, everything about this album is fantastic and is way up my alley. The variety on this album is great, too. Starting with ... read more

Pixies - Bossanova
80

Pretty cool album

Brief Review:

I'll be honest, on my first listen, nothing blew me away. I just thought Bossanova was just an okay album. But after a couple of more listens, I actually like it a bit more. Again, nothing blew my mind or made me go, "WOAH!" But I like what this album is going for. It's just some solid rock with some melodic moments in it. It's catchy, has nice production, and is pretty good overall. My highlights have to be Down To The Well and The ... read more

Jane Remover - Frailty
80

My autistic brain likes this

For my first listen to Jane Remover, this was a pretty fun experience. The whole esthetics of the album is really charming, and so is the production. The production on this album is distorted and rough, but it fits really well with the hyper pop sound this album is going for. While there is some clear inspiration from 100 gecs, Jane does a great job at making her own sound and does not sound like a copy or rip off. The lyrics aren't anything mind-blowing, but ... read more
