I know Jeff release a SKA version of this album, but I'm still going with NO DREAM cause why not
NO DREAM doesn't waste any time, literally. Before I can understand what sound Jeff is going for, NO TIME tosses me into this fast-paced and energetic sound that's even wilder than before. Even if it is short, it does an incredible job getting me hyped for the rest of the album, and for the most part, the whole album is just as energetic and fun as the intro. Tracks like Nikes and f a m e are a ... read more
Much like Slowdive, I have never heard anything from Jeff Rosenstock, other than Blast Damage Days. But just by this single song, I loved how energetic and fun Jeff was. While his singing did take some time getting used to, I loved his overall vibe I got from some of the tracks I listened to. So once I saw that he was releasing a new album, I knew this was the perfect chance to check out his discography. WORRY. was one of the albums that caught my full attention for how energetic yet sad it ... read more
Yeah, this album isn't overrated
I'm always skeptical when I'm listening to an album that's highly praised, and Souvlaki is no exception. Don't get me wrong, there are definitely some albums that fully deserve all of the praise. But then you have albums like MBDTF that are actually overrated, in my opinion. But after listening to both everything is alive and self-titled, my worries completely faded. And after listening to this album, I can confidently say that it deserves all of the praise it ... read more
Honestly, I think Anthony Fantano was the reason I didn't check Slowdive out. Seeing the low score he gave them made for this album me nervous to check them out. But of course, I started to have my own opinions on albums. And after listening to everything is alive, I knew it would only make sense to check out their entire discography, starting with their self-titled. And man, I don't know how or why Anthony gave this album a 4. Sure, it's not the best album I have ever heard, but it was great ... read more
Before I start this review, I have to say something. I just started school... and that's pretty much it. Since it's my last year in high school, homework is going to be more difficult, so I won't have so much free time to write reviews, which sucks, but at least it's my last year. So yeah, that's about it. Enjoy the review, and thank you for reading :)
So... my virgin ears have not yet been cummed in my Slowdive, and since I saw that they were going to be releasing an album this year, I ... read more
While JID carries both singles in my opinion, Lil Yatchy actually does a great job at carrying his own weight. The production of both songs are fucking amazing, especially Van Gogh. It goes hard as fuck
Half Doin Dope: 8/10
Van Gogh: 9/10
I knew this album was going to be bad just by seeing the note in the album cover. It feels so AI generated, just like this EP. It's basically if you put the prompt "Make an EP that's sad, but kids and man children will like it. And add some cursing so the kids and man children listening feel cool and bad ass" in an AI generator
I'm confused... that's the joke
Probably my least favorite single so far. But as ya'll can tell, I still really enjoyed it. While not as blissful or as Safe Here, it's still a beautiful and calming track. The ending especially is really cool. I just love how it fades out in a peaceful way. Overall, Confusion Is The Key is another great ambient track that offers something a little different from Safe Here, which is something I appreciate. Another great track from you, Marshall. Keep it up
Thank you @Marshall4Real for showing me your song :)
The name doesn't lie. It's safe here
If you were to search up the definition for ambient, this song would probably come up. Nothing happens. Nothing changes. For me, that's what makes a good ambient song, and Safe Here is no exception. It's soothing, calming, and just straight up beautiful. This track honestly doesn't feel like 6 minutes. It just feels like your falling into a void of bliss and relaxation. Overall, Safe Here is a very ... read more
Summer: The Album
While Hotel 1105 isn't the biggest improvement from The Color Blue, it's still great and is one of the best albums of the summer. The production on this album this time around is chill and viby. It still has those great jazz elements that were on The Color Blue but implemented more on this album. Hotel 1105 is also more soulful, with the production sounding soft and beautiful. It's definitely a step up from The Color Blue, having production that sounds like it it came from a ... read more
While The Color Blue isn't perfect, it's still a great debut album that is nice to listen to, and it has a couple of amazing moments to offer, the production being one of them. The production on this album is really good. It's so jazzy and chill, and the samples used are amazing. Hoop Dreams is one track that has some stellar production, with crisp and heavy kicks and drums, and a sample that is beautiful. D2x's rapping on this track and on the rest of the album is pretty ... read more
This album cover is so fucking boring
Other than the album cover, STRUGGLER is a really good album. It might not have the punch that Smiling With No Teeth has, but it's still a great listen. On this album, Genesis Owusu takes it back, giving us something more punk and RnB inspired. While Smiling With No Teeth did have catchy tracks, STRUGGLER heavily leans on the catchiness, having more addictive melodies and pop hooks. But honestly, that doesn't bother me, and it actually works well on this ... read more
Yeah, I'm back from my trip :)
I'm totally late on reviewing this album. But hey, better late than never
Smiling With No Teeth is basically if Gorillaz and Thundercat had a baby. One minute this album is aggressive and hard, and the next it's smooth and groovy as fuck, which makes for an amazing and diverse album. From Genesis' amazing vocal performances to the fantastic production, everything about this album is fun yet meaningful. Just from the album cover itself, we can ... read more
Original Review: Just some good rap songs from Mac
Does this album have the same emotional depth as Watching Movies with the Sound Off? No
Does it go hard? Hell yeah
While GO:OD AM doesn't have the same emotional depth that was present on Watching Movies with the Sound Off, it's not supposed to be that. Mac is mostly using this album to have fun, with some funny and clever lyrics and bouncy production. Even if not every track hits, there are definitely some banging tracks that are so fun to ... read more
Original Review: A lot of these songs are very personal to Mac, and I love it. I also love some of the harder hitting tracks.
Such an underrated album from Mac
While Blue Slide Park was a decent debut album from Mac, not only has it not aged well, but it also doesn't show Mac's skills as both a producer and lyricist. On Watching Movies with the Sound Off, Mac goes for a totally different approach to his music. Watching Movies with the Sound Off has darker and abstract production while also ... read more
Pretty sick album. I really like the production on this album. It sounds alien-ish, with some dance, electronic, and hip-hop elements in it. There are a few tracks that feel repetitive, but overall, this was really fun to listen to.
Bro wants to be Swans so bad π
Shout out to Remi and his cousin for making a pretty good album. The experimentation on this album is insane, and for the most part, it's pulled off greatly. I like the diverse sound on this album, ranging from electronic noise to synthetic bliss. Tracks like Pulse, Lethargy, and Pathosway are some of the highlights for me, as they do a great job at having a rhythm that create a somewhat dark atmosphere. There are a few tracks that are kind of dull and don't ... read more
Wow. Just wow
I expected great things from UmbranHammer, but this blew my expectations. Both tracks are absolutely amazing, and I love how different both of them are. The title track is beautiful but sad. The production is colorful and soothing, and the vocals are great. Everyone about this track is amazing. The Gatherer is another amazing track that has a totally different vibe. It's more ambient, glitchy, and haunting. I love how the track starts out pretty, and as it goes on, it becomes ... read more
Yet another amazing song from johnb3g. The layers on this song are absolutely beautiful, and I love how spacy it is. I also love how I can hear every instrument, which shows me the level of detail put into this song. Just an overall amazing and beautiful work of art. Keep up the amazing work, Juan!
