I can't like this album ๐
It would destroy my reputation if people found out I support a band that burns the pride flag, so this album is a 0. Sorry
This is my first taste of Sigur Rós, so I didn't know what to expect. But I was NOT expecting this. If someone showed me this album, blindly, and told me it was a soundtrack for a foreign movie, I would have believed them. Everything about this album is so cinematic. The orchestration is fucking amazing, and the distant vocals ... read more
Unlike Lianne's self-titled album, which was more acoustic and had heavy drums, Blood has more of a pop appeal. However, Blood isn't just a basic pop album with overdramatic choruses and cliche lyrics. Instead, Blood still has those vulnerable and bittersweet lyrics that were present on Lianne's self-titled album. Not only that, but the production on this album is amazing. While it does have that pop element to it, most of that pop is covered with some beautiful soul elements, along with those ... read more
This album is only good because of the Radiohead song ๐
All jokes aside, this album is incredible. One of the reasons why I wanted to check this album out is hearing Courage, which I really loved. And I'm glad that the whole album is just as amazing. Everything about this album is beautiful, soulful, and vulnerable, which makes sense considering that this is a self-titled album. I love the production on this album. Everything sounds clean and thoughtfully put together, but it doesn't sound ... read more
Since listening to Currents, I thought it was only fair that I listened to Lonerism
Lonerism is yet another amazing album from Kevin. However, Lonerism is very different from Currents in many ways. The production is still fantastic, but it's rough, which was probably purposely done. The production is also more rock influenced, which is different from the more dreamy production that was on Currents. But I really like this different sound, considering the theme Lonerism tackles, which was ... read more
Psychedelic and synthn porn. My favorite ๐
Currents is yet another album that I've been missing out on. After hearing Kevin in the single with Thundercat, it got me interested in listening to his work, and what's a better place to start than with Currents. This album was such a treat to listen to. Everything on this album flows so smoothly, which is depicted on the album cover. The production and instrumentation on this album is dreamy, which is elevated by the pool of reverb Kevin adds. I ... read more
Well fuck, I was missing out on an amazing album
After I saw the melon give this a 10/10, I knew that I had to listen to this album. After a couple of listens, I now understand why this album is praised. There are so many things I want to talk about, so I guess I'll start.
The production on this album is just perfect. As soon as I heard the first track, I knew I was in for a treat. From the piano, violins, and drums, the instrumentation on each track of this album is amazing and magical. The ... read more
I think what makes this King Krule's weakest album and my least favorite album from him is the time length. For the type of music he's creating, I think anything over an hour is just dragging at this point. However, this is not me saying that this album doesn't have anything going for it. There are genuinely some beautiful moments on this album. Songs like La Lune and Slush Puppy are some gorgeous tracks that have some amazing instrumentation, and Marshall's voice is ... read more
Dirty Computer fixes some of the problems I have with The Age Of Pleasure. The production on this album is not only more diverse, but it's also more blissful, beautiful, and extremely catchy. Janelle singing is still beautiful, like on The Age Of Pleasure, just having a more R&B and soulful tone to it. Dirty Computer is also more political, talking about racism and how the media can perceive her. While there are a couple of tracks that are weak, this album overall is an amazing listen with ... read more
I was a little nervous about listening to The Age Of Pleasure, but it's actually a fun summer album. Janelle sounds confident, free, and sexy on this album, not being afraid to let people know that she's bi and could steal your girl whenever she wants to. There are some production moments that don't do a whole lot for me, but for the most part, the production on this album is pretty chill and has nothing but good vibes all around. The lyrics are also pretty fun, not being as serious or ... read more
Depression: The Album :)
While Space Heavy is pretty depressing, mainly for its lyrics about loneliness, Man Alive! takes this feeling to a whole new level. With Man Alive!, the instrumentation is, again, slow and calm, but there's also a dreamy element to it. Theme for the Cross and Slinky are songs that don't feel real in a way. They have production that feels like I'm living in a fantasy, but there's a melancholic feeling that is added that completely destroys any sort of happiness that can ... read more
Not gonna lie, I was worried that this album was going to be underwhelming. I liked the singles, but I didn't know how the rest of the album was going to stack up to them. But I'm pleased to say that Space Heavy met my expectations
Space Heavy is a little different from the rest of King Krule's discography. Most of his songs before this album were a little more heavy sound wise, like on Man Alive! and The OOZ. However, Space Heavy is a little acoustic, with some jazz elements in the mix. The ... read more
Shout out to @sophi for making such a wonderful project :)
For a mixtape that was made for "fun," this was such a fun listen that makes me jealous that I can't make this type of music. There are so many things from this mixtape that just make me smile but also make me feel sad. You have the opening track that really sets the mood, putting you in a state of loneliness but also calmness. i miss being romantic is such a fun song that takes a turn from a slow and romantic track to a ... read more
I can't believe that I enjoy the first album more than the new one, but I do. The risks and directions this album takes are unbelievable. One minute, I'm listening to a full on rock song. The next, I'm listening to a moody track that sounds very spacy and unsettling. Bright Green Field doesn't stay in one lane. Instead, they take multiple, which I really love. The vocals are also pretty good. At first, I thought I wouldn't like them since they sound very cartoony. But after a couple of more ... read more
For my first Squid album, I was pleased with the sound of the whole album and what it does to keep my attention. While nothing really shocked me, I really enjoyed the switch ups that would happen during the tracks, keeping me engaged and interested in the album. The instrumentation on this album is amazing, having these slow moments that also feel heavy. I also love the lead singer's voice, having this edgy feeling to it that works well with both the calm and aggressive moments of the album. I ... read more
Shout out to @Bruhman and @Brando for this track :)
I had to give this song a few more listens since I wasn't feeling it at first. But after a couple of listens, I like this song. The production is very eerie, with Souza's vocals matching the mood, sounding calm yet eerie. I honestly don't have any problem with the mixing, but I do wish the track was longer since I feel like it doesn't have enough time to build up to something epic. Overall, EGBA is a great track that does a good job at ... read more
Original Review: This feels like we're witnessing a person breaking down and hitting rock bottom. This story feels tragic.
I didn't know how I wanted to tackle this album. I want to talk about the story that, I believe, is present in the album, but I also just want to talk about the instrumentation and lyrics. In the end, I decided to talk about both.
Ants From Up There might have to be one of the most depressing listens I have had. It's also one of my favorite albums of the 2020s so far, ... read more
Original Review: black midi is that you
For the first time is a great debut album from a band that are already making a name for themselves. However, as mentioned in my original review, a lot of this album seems to take some inspiration from black midi, which can already be heard in the first track alone. That's not me saying that Black Country, New Road are unoriginal. It's just me saying that the band haven't found their own sound just yet. But even with the heavy inspiration ... read more
While not my favorite single from the new album, it's definitely an opener that does a great job at bringing you in into Archy's world, with the opening synthns and beautiful guitar that goes through the whole track
Year of the Snitch is Death Grips' most recent and, hopefully not, last album released. This album is very, very, VERY different from everything they have released prior. Yes, it does still have that experimental sound that they are known for. However, there is little to no hip-hop in this album. Instead, Year of the Snitch seems to lean more towards rock, with production that has some nice heavy distorted rifts and guitar. When I learned about this change, I expected myself to be disappointed ... read more
I'm going to fuck you in half. I wouldn't go to sleep if I were you ๐
Bottomless Pit sees the group take elements from The Money Store, where the songs here are aggressive and dirty yet catchy. However, this album also takes some elements from The Powers That B, where the lyrics are self aware of the world and the fan base Death Grips have attracted. While The Money Store and The Powers That B are 2 completely different albums, Bottomless Pit does an amazing job at combining both worlds for ... read more
