Kill Bill: the Rapper & Rav - New Moon
Feb 18, 2019

I listened to this without any knowledge of what it was literally just because I thought the cover was cool. I don’t think it’s ever happened that I’ve done this with an album and come out of it having loved it.

New Moon is so chockfull of personality. Both Rav and Kill Bill have their own distinct voices and lyrical quirks (both connected by the theme of nostalgia) that make them instantaneously recognizable when they start rapping, and that’s how a duo album should be. The only similar is their flows, but I think that’s a positive. If they sounded too different in that regard, it would feel awkward. They compliment each other on every track while also keeping their own artistic identities in mind.

Also keeping up in its own personality is the album. The production is so fucking awesome. Every track does something new and incorporates its own unique instrumental loop that gives it a more standout feel. Plus, there’s the interludes that cap off almost every track and transition into the next one that make it feel a lot more conceptual and almost narrative-like.

Overall, New Moon is one of the best cloud rap albums I’ve listened to since the genre’s emergence into the modern era of rap, and I can’t recommend it enough for fans of the genre. I could harp on the one problem I have with this album, which is the first track, but why would I when everything else is so damn good?

Best Tracks: When I’m Successful Imma Buy a Neo Geo, Lovedrug, Saffron, Dirge, Put It Down, Lil Empathy

Weakest Track: Now You Don’t
