Aaaaaaaaaa I promise To Be Kind became a 100 for me before I had any idea it was a Melon 10 as well lol. The album is actually probably the easiest 100 I’ve ever given, it’s gotta be that or AFUT. I mean, I gave both albums a 100 basically as soon as I finished my first listen to each, haha.

Also, speaking of AFUT, I’ve been seeing that it is your favorite album again! :D

Personally, my favorite Swans album is without question and by far To Be Kind. Probably the most consistently transcendent—and straight-up flawlessly ceaselessly and absolutely incredible—musical experience that I know. I’m definitely going to write and release a review for it in the coming days.

But The Seer is still essentially a top-tier album imo! You know, during the second time that I listened to it, I actually pictured in my own head the story you shared in your previous account’s review for the album, which ended up greatly enhancing the experience! Makes me want to come up with my own stories to picture during listens to other personal favorite albums of mine. :)

Haha yeah, I actually really liked all of the reverb, the album itself truly kind of reminds me of Deathconsciousness, one of my favorite albums of all time in that they’re both long, loud, and dark!

Also, The Seer is one of my 100s again 😎

Wow, I’m going to have to write a review for this album, I have soooooo much to say about it lol. I’ll probably do that towards the end of the year, because I’m planning to review all my top albums of 2022 at that time.

(Also…I kinda sorta might be working on a review series for my 100s, along with a truly concrete ranking of them…!!!! 🤫)

Facts!

Well, pop-oriented music has never been my thing, so my biggest problem with the album is in fact its many conventional moments imo; my opinion of this album would be MUCH greater mainly if most of its choruses didn’t sound like Taylor Swift wrote them. 😐😑😐

Like I said, though, the common conventional-ness contributes to the album’s incredible and incredibly told story, as it emphasizes the main character’s innocence to me! (Knowing the album’s story is indeed what made the whole thing click for me!)

I honestly believe that if Ethel Cain took as little as one or two steps away from conventional music, she could become one of my favorite singer/songwriters of the decade so far. Who knows, maybe she will!!

It’s really a shame that Thoroughfare doesn’t work on its own, because I really do love the outro and the instrumentation for most of the song. Hoping it grows on me, haha

Thank you :)
And yeah, I understand that you’re still on the fence with it, it’s definitely one of those albums that requires a whole lot of thought before you can determine your ultimate opinion on it!

I still find American Teenager and Gibson Girl to be incredibly annoying though, along with the choruses in Thoroughfare and Family Tree (not the intro) 😭

And yet, Ptolemaea is possibly a 10+/10 song for me, it’s so cathartic and intense in all ways that it’s just unreal…
