The fusion between provocative spoken word and ethereal song doesn't sit as easily as it did on Innocence is Kinky. Nor does this reach the heights of Meshes of Voice (which is excellent). Seems like an "in-between" sort of album. Some good cuts, but not great as a whole.
Veers into corny territory early and often, and sometimes it works. Weird, melodramatic, Enoesque, glammy... Nothing else that comes out this year is gonna sound like this. I just wish they'd focused more on crafting great songs.
