Got my record early, and I’m glad I did. Born Ruffians have never been this good.

JUICE (2020) takes the raw energy of their debut RED, YELLOW, & BLUE (2008) and combines it with the catchy pop rock of RUFF (2015) and the thematic cohesiveness of UNCLE, DUKE, & THE CHIEF (2018). If all that sounds eye-rollingly pretentious, just know that Born Ruffians have never sounded more confident or sure-footed.

The album is a svelte 30-ish minutes, and better for it; there’s no ... read more

I hate that I'm just learning about Perfume Genius now.

I dunno. I really love the opener, "Deleter." But the rest isn't clicking for me.

Born Ruffians have been on fire lately.

Feels like Sam's Town. Not bad, but not exactly renewing my faith in the band.

Spirited, live-wire rock. Energetic from start to finish and never drops its forward momentum. I'm a sucker for shouty, repetitive lyrics.

Disquet Courts? :P Excellent debut. Disq is going places!

It's probably because of where I am in life that I love this song so much.

In my opinion, this is way too safe a song for someone of Lady Gaga's caliber, at this stage in her career.

This is a bloated version of one of my favorite pop releases of last year (MAP OF THE SOUL: PERSONA). Has some good new tunes, but just doesn't work as a cohesive album to me.

Very New Order-esque. Great tune.

Excellent pop album with an effortless 80s aesthetic, and some great guitar-driven tracks. Thematically, it's a lot like Lorde's MELODRAMA. It's definitely worth 44 minutes of your time--especially if your sitting fetal position in dark corner of your room this Valentine's Day.

I wanted to like this, but something didn’t click for me. There’s something lacking I can’t quite put my finger on. I’ll probably revisit it someday.

The best they’ve ever been.

It's fine? I don't really understand Billie Eilish, though, and this didn't help.

Beautiful, fully-realized sounds that many bands never find, much less in a debut. A fucking stellar record.

Having never heard anything by Shopping before, I had no expectations going into this album. It's a brisk, 30-minute jaunt through feelings of insecurity, longing, and losing, but all presented in appropriate, upbeat, post-punk fashion. Pretty great from beginning to end.
