Jonatan Leandoer is a Swedish cloud rapper and "Starz" is his most recent project. Yung Lean is an odd figure for sure with his insanely drugged out music and his endless creativity. This album shows Lean in best form, with great hooks, alright vocals, and what really makes this album is the fantastic production from Whitearmor.
1. My Agenda - The opener has the darkest sounding instrumental and vocals from Lean and lots of extremely unnerving lyrics as the instrumental becomes distorted and strange. (9.5/10)
2. Yayo - Nice contrast to the previous track with the lighter and more spacey trap beat as Yung Lean talks about his aspiration to becoming famous and dealing with success. (9/10)
3. Boylife in EU - The chorus is so heavenly as Lean talks about killing the real him and asks for someone to touch, feel, and decompose him. (9/10)
4. Violence - It's a song that shows off more of Lean's rapping capability and has a really cool trap beat. (9/10)
5. Outta My Head - This is a more simplistic track with some really memorable lines like, "Don't want to be near you or breathe your air." which feels like a weird flex. (8.5/10)
6. Dance in the Dark - One of the less interesting and memorable songs but still pretty solid. (7.5/10)
7. Acid at 7/11 - Weird topic for a song, but I mean... IM OFF ACID AT 7/11, ACID AT 7/11, ACID AT 7/11 {x4} (8/10)
8. Starz - Sadboy anthem with an unlikely feature from Ariel Pink and a great chorus perfectly encapsulating the sound of the entire album. (9/10)
9. Hellraiser - Yung Lean pulls off a weird flow over a really sick cloud trap beat and is a very different sound for Lean. (9.5/10)
10. Butterfly Paralyzed - Lean's vocals sound not so great at points, but the sentiment is pretty solid with him talking about being left in a bad state, but changing into a butterfly and becoming something new. (8/10)
11. Dogboy - Weird track with Lean just barking for 10 minutes over Swans instrumentals. (8/10)
12. Iceheart - Such a catchy trap track with a beat that matches perfectly. (9/10)
13. Pikachu - Same thing applies here, just really fun cloud trap with a really cool somewhat 8-bit instrumental. (8.5/10)
14. Low - Not much to say about this track but it shows off more of leans vocals. (8/10)
15 - Sunset Sunrise - Another less memorable track with a cool robotic instrumental and a good cloud rap vibe to it. (7.5/10)
16 - Put Me in a Spell - the closer to the album feels like a genuine send off with Lean getting into his feelings. (7.5/10)
Overall I really loved listening to this album, so many tracks are extremely memorable and catchy with the production that is utterly beautiful and fitting for leans style of work.
