Trippie Redd teams up with Lil Uzi Vert to drop the second single, 'Holy Smokes', from his highly anticipated upcoming album, 'Trip at Knight'. The vocals from Trippie Redd are below average, being far from his best which is starting to get frustrating because of how underwhelming his vocals were on 'Miss the Rage' too but I guess that's the sacrifice for the improved production, while Lil Uzi Vert fits the beat so much better than I thought he would, impressing me with how interesting he sounded on the song. The production on the song is super good, showing that Trippie Redd really wants to experiment with the production on the album and so far it's turning out amazing as the instrumental on this track is playful and really fun while the drums are muddy and mediocre like on 'Miss the Rage'. The lyrics are above average as both rappers don't create any cool bars but they are quite creative with the lyrics, just flexing like usual. I was one of the few people who found the snippet for 'Holy Smokes' to be super underwhelming but the addition Lil Uzi Vert really brought life to the track as it even helped enhance Trippie Redd's performance, although I kinda do wish that Uzi had a longer verse. People have been saying that 'Trip at Knight' could be a classic and I can clearly see that as he's dropped two excellent singles in a row after flopping with his last few projects, with the experimentation in the production so far being extremely pleasing. Overall, 'Holt Smokes' is a satisfying single that continues Trippie Redd's hot streak, showing that he's in control of a cool, creative project and making decent decisions by adding Lil Uzi Vert on this song and choosing a different type of rage beat, a rage beat that sounds like it has evolved, showing that Trippie Redd isn't just rapping on regular rage beats but is actually trying to take them to the next level.
