It's funny because this feels, sequentially, like their second-to-last album due to releasing in NZ at midnight, with The Family releasing thereafter in all time zones globally. Crazy seeing this pop up in my Spotify 12am on Friday wondering what the fuck it was, having seen no promotion by the group or any information regarding a 'second album' at that point.

TM is Brockhampton's final project intended for hardcore fans of the group - rather than being a body of work that is new to the ... read more

"This the ending we all envisioned, right?"

Definitely not the ending I wanted, but here we are. That promo image featuring that man with the BH paper bag over his head makes so much more sense now, given their legacy concludes as a Kevin-disguised solo project about the group rather than a "group project".

And I'd be lying if I said I hadn't shed a few tears during my first few listens to this album.

Historically I've never written paragraphs to a project before on ... read more

Freddie Gibbs - $oul $old $eparately
This project doesn't waste any time. Although it doesn't start off the greatest, it eventually finds its footing - in fact, it really raises the bar in quality. Certainly the best Freddie solo to date, and look forward to hearing more quality music in the future.

10/10s: Gold Rings
Highlights: Feel No Pain, Grandma's Stove, Rabbit Vision, CIA, PYS, Dark Hearted, Space Rabbit, Zipper Bagz

Total Cumulative Score: 8.69/10

Jockstrap - I Love You Jennifer B
I absolutely loved this! Certain elements remind me of Bjork, others of Portishead. 'Greatest Hits' is my SOTY so far!

10/10s: Greatest Hits
Highlights: Neon, Jennifer B, Concrete Over Water, Debra, Glasgow, 50/50

Total Cumulative Score: 9.04/10

JID - The Forever Story
Incredible, front to back. AOTY contender.

10/10s: Kody Blu 31, Dance Now, Lauder Too
Highlights: Can't Punk Me, Surround Sound, Sistanem, Raydar, Money, Stars, Crack Sandwich, Better Days

Total Cumulative Score: 9.19/10

Kanye West - ye
My third favourite project to come out of the Wyoming Sessions is a short and sweet tracklist with some very personal subject matter from Ye.

10/10s: Ghost Town
Highlights: Yikes, All Mine

Total Cumulative Score: 8.23/10

Kanye West - The Life of Pablo
A messy masterpiece. Took me months to get used to the sound when it initially dropped, but 6 years down the track this sounds fresh and way ahead of its time.

10/10s: FML, Real Friends (Perfect Score), No More Parties in L.A.
Highlights: Ultralight Beam, Father Stretch My Hands, Famous, Feedback, Wolves, 30 Hours, Saint Pablo

Total Cumulative Score: 8.74/10

Kanye West - JESUS IS KING
'Donda' should have succeeded 'Ye', not this. Kanye can make a great gospel album, it shows in bits and pieces for 'Donda' but this is just abysmal.

Highlights: Follow God, On God, Every Hour

Chakras > Selah
The Storm > Everything We Need
Law of Attraction > Use This Gospel

Total Cumulative Score: 3.49/10

alt-J - Relaxer
Half amazing, half a chore to listen to. It's a shame because this project could have been a classic had it not been for Track 3 and 4.

10/10s: 3WW, Deadcrush
Highlights: In Cold Blood, Adeline

Total Cumulative Score: 6.61/10

Kanye West - Donda 2
I think an assessment is now fair considering this has been "released" since February. I really see the potential to improve this project, but can't deny that it is severely lacking in many areas, the obvious answer being Ye's unfinished verses.

1) True Love - the X sample is greatly implemented, but this track is in serious need of a second verse or something to really bring closure to it. There's nothing overly special about this one. However it does appear to be finished, ... read more

Denzel Curry - Melt My Eyez See Your Future
This man just keeps getting better and better. Consistently solid rapper bringing plenty of energy to the table.

10/10s: Zatoichi
Highlights: Melt Session #1, Walkin, Worst Comes to Worst, The Last, Troubles, X-Wing, Sanjuro, The Ills

Total Cumulative Score: 8.76/10 (in need of a revisit - may be higher)

Steve Lacy - Gemini Rights
A very catchy and groovy body of work from Lacy. Looking forward to future projects! I dare anyone to resist belting out the chorus to 'Bad Habits'.

10/10s: N/A
Highlights: Helmet, Mercury, Buttons, Bad Habit, Sunshine, Give You the World

Total Cumulative Score: 8.57/10

Maroon 5 - Red Pill Blues
Contender for worst album cover ever. Aside from that, probably A̶d̶a̶m̶ ̶L̶e̶v̶i̶n̶e̶'̶s̶ Maroon 5's worst collection of tracks I've heard in a while. Nothing overly special here to point out. Also, there's 7 band members??? WTF

10/10s: N/A
Highlights: What Lovers Do, Who I Am, Closure

Total Cumulative Score: 1.89/10

The Queen is back and she's upped the ante! Seriously great production overall and plenty of replayability. Also loving the transitions between tracks, especially Cuff It - Energy - Break My Soul, always gives me chills every time I listen to this three-track run.

10/10s: N/A
Highlights: I'm That Girl, Cozy, Alien Superstar, Cuff It, Break My Soul, Virgo's Groove, Move, All Up in Your Mind, America Has a Problem, Summer Renaissance

Total Cumulative Score: 8.6/10

King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard - Omnium Gatherum
The Aussie neighbours are back at it again with a solid collection of tracks. Seriously, it really shows how talented these guys are when you can dabble into so many genres on one album.

10/10s: The Dripping Tap
Highlights: Magenta Mountain, Kepler-22b, Gaia, Ambergris, Sadie Sorceress, Evilest Man, Persistence, The Grim Reaper, Predator X, Red Smoke

Total Cumulative Score: 8.83/10

Michael Kiwanuka - Kiwanuka
An underrated gem from 2019. Beautiful instrumentation paired up with Kiwanuka's incredible vocals and lyricism.

10/10s: You Ain't the Problem, Rolling, Piano Joint
Highlights: I've Been Dazed, Living in Denial, Hero, Hard to Say Goodbye, Final Days, Solid Ground, Light

Total Cumulative Score: 9.22/10

Eminem - The Marshall Mathers LP
A classic album from Em; while he is at his peak, I can't say his features complement the album all that well and account for most of the problems I have with this album.

10/10s: Stan, The Way I Am, The Real Slim Shady
Highlights: Kill You, Who Knew, Marshall Mathers, Drug Ballad, Amityville (minus Bizarre verse), Bitch Please 2, Criminal

Total Cumulative Score: 8.68/10

Eminem - The Marshall Mathers LP 2
Still holds up as Em's strongest body of work post-2010. While a lot of it is heavily leaned towards the commercial side of things (especially in contrast to LP1), for the most part it works in his favour.

10/10s: N/A
Highlights: Bad Guy, Survival, Asshole, Berzerk, Rap God, Brainless, So Far..., Love Game, Headlights, Evil Twin

Total Cumulative Score: 7.7/10

Eminem - Kamikaze
It's a step-up in quality from Revival to say the least, but still comes across as a rushed collection of tracks of Em whinging about critics and mumble rap. Huge let-down.

10/10s: N/A
Highlights: Lucky You, Stepping Stone, I even enjoy Good Guy & Nice Guy to some degree even though that seems to be an unpopular opinion

Total Cumulative Score: 5.36/10

Against All Logic - 2012 - 2017
A modern house classic. Makes for great background music while at work or studying.

10/10s: This Old House is All I Have
Highlights: Some Kind of Game, Hopeless, Know You, Now U Got Me Hooked, Flash in the Pan

Total Cumulative Score: 8.99/10
