This man yearns like no other human being alive, and as a fellow yearner it hits. On first listen it’s pretty same-y, but I enjoy the whole album and Matt is able to evoke a lot of feelings with his words and simple (but beautiful) instrumentals! If you don’t like slow ballads that make you ache I recommend a different album.

Definitely not the best in their discography, but still a great listen that I find myself going back to often!
Doing a listen of all of the Album of the Year Grammy winners with my bestie, and this is the first ever one!
This album was up for the award alongside Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, and Van Cliburn. Considering (spoiler alert) how much Sinatra wins in the 60’s, it is a wonder this album pulled out on top! And crazy that the first ever Grammys had nominated a black woman for this category, and it wouldn’t be for another 30+ years that a black woman would win the award.
