This is my second full review on a band that means a lot to me! In fact, I am confident in saying that Don Broco is my favourite band right now, and before I see them live next week I felt like making a review on their recent album Amazing Things, the album I would consider to be their best yet! I had no idea THIS is the creator of Back Pocket. That cursed song. That realisation hit me like a high speed train and I’m not happy about it! Yikes! Been a while since we’ve had an album this low. Imma be straight up, this sounds amateur and boring. Panchiko’s singing is very monotone, and it sounds like she(?) was being forced to sing in a school production and doesn’t want to. I can’t hear any emotion, and if there’s passion then she just wasn’t a great singer at the time, in my opinion. Yeah no. I wasn’t thrilled by the Parannoul album, and now I wasn’t thrilled by the Parannoul live performance. You know, maybe if this was an actual album recorded in a studio I’d enjoy it more, but for music that I typically enjoy and embrace, this dragged on. I’m not going to fault anything about the performance, it was top notch, everyone was great, looks like a brilliant show, it’s the music for me. This is certainly not an album to gloss over if you are a metal fan or just seeking out new and powerful music to try out. This is 50 minutes of raw metal, with drums blasting, guitars rocking, violins wailing, and either blissful singing or brutal screaming, it’s a lot. It’s a very emotional and eerie sounding album and it’s passion is clear. If that’s what you’re in to, definitely give this album a listen. It’s out there, doesn’t shy away from trying something wild, and that’s probably the make it or break it factor for most. I commend the bravery, I suppose that’s the suitable word lol. Unfortunately, it didn’t hit me right here, sometimes it was overbearing and fell short on the interesting aspect and moved more towards being annoying, particularly on ‘The Chainsmokers Are Dead’, and the mixing quality can definitely be improved with time.
