Solid Metalcore. Just really solid. It does get a little repetitive toward the end but was really able to enjoy this and not find anything bad. Similar to Cult of Luna, I don't have a baseline for how this band is, so I am basing this rating and review on the fact that this is my first Bleed From Within record. Another band that would be worth the discog deep dive.
I thoroughly enjoyed the few times I have had the chance to listen to this. It is a great focus record.
I am new to Cult of Luna, so the repetitiveness of their recordings that I see in other reviews doesn't apply to me. I thought the soundscape was perfect and even though it is a 69-minute record, I found myself wanting to listen to it again once it finished. It will be up there on my list of metal records this year. I did a few discography dives this past year and really enjoyed doing that. It makes me want to at least do a deep dive into one or two bands a month's discographies. Cult of Luna ... read more
For a local band, they are very tight and write decent songs. However, there are hundreds of bands that have this quality and tightness. Nothing stood out too much that would have me coming back more and more for this EP. However, with maturity, they could have something there.
I enjoyed this a lot more than what a lot of people did.
Really underwhelmed with this record. I could not really get into this. There are a couple of cool tracks off of this, but the rest is very skippable.
I was leaning between 75 and 80 on this one. However, I know there are a lot of layers to this record so I am going to go ahead and put 80. I love the production and quality of this record. The soundscapes and vocals are spot on. For something that is as intense as Deathcore, it is a very pleasing record to have on. I like the Kerrang! category that they gave with "deathgaze."
I can't remember if I gave this one a listen or not back in March when it came out, but this was thoroughly enjoyable. They have a lot of vocal talent and their playing is solid. The production is not as polished as other Deathcore mixes this year, but this made it even more enjoyable.
I named my dog Lydia because of this album. I don't have much more to say. This album and the Reign of Kindo's Rhythm, Chord, and Melody are as defining of my music taste as Periphery is.
Periphery is the only other band who has gotten more album playthroughs in my lifetime than what The Reign of Kindo got with this record. It was the soundtrack to my Freshman year in college and caused a void in my music listening life that was hard to fill for a couple of years. It wasn't until Periphery came out with P1 did I find a record that was able to match the obsession that this record did. Rhythm, Chord & Melody melded jazz, rock, and emo music into a perfect blend that scratches ... read more
This record easily deserves a 100 solely based on the fact that I didn't listen to another record for a good 6 weeks and might have been close to 100 playthroughs within that time period. Again, no band has ever been able to get a 100 listens in a year and Periphery did that almost within 6 weeks for this one.
I don't think any other band has gotten me to listen to their record 100 times through within a year and this band has done it 3 times. It is why their records hold the top 3 spots in my All-Time List.
It was decent. I never really got into the whole hipster Christian music scene as it just felt like it was the Millenial flavor of CCM that just copy cats non-Christian music. The only group that I really got into from the Indie-Christian music scene was The Brilliance who happens to be, IMO, the more talented of the Gungor brothers.
It has quality but really couldn't enjoy the record too much. Just felt like background noise mostly. Yes, I understand it is slowcore. There are plenty of more ambient and slow records that I enjoyed more. Maybe this requires more listen to fully unpack, but nothing really stood out to me.
A pleasant and fun record. It was a nice way to kick off a day full of work. They definitely stepped up their game from prior records and their sound has matured and shows in this record. It could make the AOTY 100 list and might end up on the Pop Punk 10 list.
My rating is currently based on one listen. I think this is one of the better rap albums of the year. However, the latter half of the record tended to blend together and become repetitive and those songs blurred together. Regardless, the fact that NAS is approaching 50 and still spitting like this is a testament to his talent.
I originally gave this a 95 when it first came out. I was blown away by this and used the other two Deathcore releases as a litmus for where this one lands. However, as the year has gone on, I think this is a still pretty great record. The instrumentation is great, but the question is does it deserve a higher rating than Lorna Shore? The answer is, no, but it can receive the same score. I would put Lorna Shore slightly higher now that I can stack them up so this rating was adjusted accordingly. ... read more
A pleasant listen, want to give this another couple of listens to see how it holds up against the other couple of Alt Metal/Shoegaze records I have listened to.
