Ingested - Ashes Lie Still
70

A solid record. There wasn't any mind-blowing things, but it wasn't something that I felt underwhelmed by. It could also be one of those that grow with a few more listens.

Disillusion - Ayam
88

If it weren't for the Dayseeker record coming out this week, this would be the #1 pick for 11/4 by a landslide. I thoroughly enjoy this record. It has a lot of elements that I like in a progressive metal band. It matches up there with the other progressive releases this year like Persifone and Iburaki. It will be placed somewhere on the AOTY list. Hopefully can get a few more listens in before the list is finalized.

Born Without Bones - Dancer
65

I enjoyed this record but didn't find anything special. Middle of the ground record for what I have heard this week.

Cavetown - worm food
65

I didn't mind this record. However, similar to some other Indie Pop/Rock releases this past year, they are just in the middle of the road. There were some tracks that I enjoyed a lot more, but then some that just was really forgettable. There isn't a track that wasn't unpleasant though.

Johnny Booth - Storyteller
80

I definitely enjoy this sound. The only thing that kind of threw me off was the clean vocals at times, they were slightly rough. Reminded me of From First To Last with Sonny Moore. The unclean vocals are really freaking good and the instrumentation was exactly what I want from a high-energy ass beater.

AVOID - Cult Mentality
81

The first listen was really enjoyable. It feels like an early 2000s rock rebooted to a 2022 sound. There are a few surprises that really make it fun as well. Certain elements of the record remind me of Dragged Under's "The World Is In Your Way."

Devin Townsend - Lightwork
70

It is a standard Devin Townsend record. It had a rather retro sound to it. It wasn't anything special compared to some of his other records though. Still a solid listen and I am sure diehard Devin Townsend fans will enjoy it a lot.

Phoenix - Alpha Zulu
60

It is decent quality and sounds like a Phoenix album, but honestly, it was extremely forgettable and nothing really stuck out. It sounds like something that would be safe to put on in the background when guests are over and you just want an ambient sound to lighten the mood.

The Gloom in the Corner - Trinity
81

What a record! I know some people have been complaining about so many features being included on this record, but it really didn't take away from anything and made each song unique but still tied into the rest of the record. The only pitfall is that the record is a little on the long side, but the songs and the mixing of sounds doesn't make it too long. Also, people might say that it sounds like 2012 metalcore like Crown the Empire, and I can see the similarity, but they definitely have ... read more

Polyphia - Remember That You Will Die
88

These dudes are God-tier talented. The collaborations that they included on this record make it a really fun listen! Definitely going to get a lot more spins eventually and will have a place somewhere on the AOTY list. Favorite track is the opening track Genesis featuring Brasstracks.

Fear, and Loathing in Las Vegas - Cocoon for the Golden Future
76

I don't know exactly what to say but this is a blending of so many core sounds into a single project and was a little nervous it wasn't going to work. However, even though it was quite the overstimulation of sound, it was still enjoyable. They have great mid-2000's guitar tones, mixed with Jazzy elements, with some fun synth as well. Was the second biggest surprise record of the week.

Benjamin Clementine - And I Have Been
82

First time listening to Benjamin Clementine and I thoroughly enjoyed this record. I will come back to this when I get a chance. It didn't blow me away like other Art Pop records, but his voice is rather smooth and enjoyable to listen to. Curious how the back catalog is.

October Ends - PHASES
72

Thoroughly enjoyed this metalcore record. It has a mix of different sounds that I like. I definitely think there are a lot better metalcore records out there, but this is done well.

Show Me the Body - Trouble the Water
70

Definitely, something that is going to be a challenge to listen to at first, but is also really enjoyable. An album that really needs to be unpacked over a few listens. Could increase rating over time with more listens.

Despised Icon - DÉTERRÉ
65

It is classic Deathcore, I don't have much more to say. It was a good listen and got me headbanging, but it didn't really draw me in like other deathcore acts that have released stuff this year have.

Ásgeir - Time On My Hands
72

I really enjoy Ásgeir's music. The production value and the songwriting are absolutely beautiful (what else would be expected from an Icelandic singer-songwriter?). The record isn't ground-breaking or taking his sound to a new level, but it is still pretty solid.

Fit For A King - The Hell We Create
75

FFAK is a solid Metalcore band that really has honed in on its sound. I think this is a great mix of what they have tried to do on previous records and the production and quality of vocals and instrumentation are great. For those who are more into pure metalcore, I can see this being on their AOTY list. For me, it is slightly below some of the other metalcore records that have stood out to me. However, this doesn't mean that it isn't worth checking out and listening to a few times!

Dr. Acula - Dr. Acula
70

I saw some buzz about this record and thought to check it out. I definitely think this is a quality record and will give it a spin or two more. However, I do not think that it lives up to some of the hype I was seeing on the Bird app. In the year of deathcore, I think there have been a lot better albums coming out that deserve more attention, but this is still solid. It just is a little below the standard to make the AOTY list cut.

Driveways - Into the Past
70

I have never heard of Driveways until I saw it on a list of releases this week. I admit that I am not the biggest pop-punk fan during the fall as I tend to listen to the genre more in the Spring and Summer, but this record was enjoyable. The clean vocals sound pretty standard modern pop-punk to me. The songs were of great quality and honestly cannot believe that this band is unsigned. Maybe they are by choice? Anyway, I hope to see more from these guys!

Fire From The Gods - Soul Revolution
60

I was really excited about this record when I saw that it was going to be released this week. I enjoyed their last record and really want these guys to get to the next level. However, for me, this record definitely did not do that. I felt the sound was stale and didn't really seem to stick out to me. It actually sounded slightly dated and something that I would have heard in the mid-2000s.
