yeah so this isn't an unpopular opinion or anything... but screw it. This is easily a 10 and easily the best hip hop album of all-time (and maybe the best album of all-time??? idk... I'll see how I feel at the end of this review).

The title couldn't be more accurate... there's a few good things on this record. The lighthearted grooves and flows on the second track are infectious, and the simple production and vulnerable storytelling on '2012' is intriguing. However, Saba's lyrical prowess and storytelling chops are ultimately held back by a lack of focus with the production and some risks that don't pan out. I heard tracks from this album a bunch growing up, and I recently listened to the whole record for the first time. It was nostalgic and eye-opening to say the least. Back when I heard this a while ago, I just thought it was some cool moody hip-hop with charismatic vocals, but man the production here is really fantastic. This thing is just a lot of fun. Sexyy Red's voice does occasionally get over-bearing and whiny, but for the most part her hunger and ferocity really comes through. The eccentric trap production, memorable hooks, and hilariously vulgar bars make this an album that feels simultaneously demanding of your attention but never comes across as trying too hard.
I've been trying to think of what I can say to do this beautiful album justice, but I don't think there's anything I can say other than... just go listen to this gem of an album from someone we lost far too soon.

Loved the Bright Eyes reaction video. Great album. You should check out LIFTED when you get the chance if you haven’t already. Oberst’s a once in a lifetime lyricist.
