I wanted to write something about this album since its 50th birthday back in the middle of February, but I didn't have the proper time to do it. So, here I am now to talk about this amazing album. This is probably the most influential album of all time. Everything that followed after the release of this self titled album from the Birmingham boys was somehow impacted by it. And man, this album is revolutionary in its own aspects. The dark environment and atmosphere, the heavy and strong ... read more
And as we reach the end of this adventure into the RATM discography, it's time for a covers album. This the elephant in the room, because even with the instrumentals sounding like fire, it is not technically a RATM album and I'm pretty glad that everyone here can see that.
And this is where things get weird for me. I like this more than I like Evil Empire and probably more than I really should actually. But it is what it is. So many classic tracks in here, like "Testify". "Calm Like a Bomb" and "Mic Check". Oh, and "Guerrilla Radio" might one of the best songs of all time. I absolutely love this thing. From front to back, it's entertaining, but it keeps you in your toes with the same aspects that made both previous efforts ... read more
Okay, so this might not be a step up from their debut album, but it definitely put the sophomore album curse away from the band. This has everything its predecessor had. Political charged lyrics and great delivery, but it couldn't keep up with the same level. It does lack a little something, but nothing that extraordinary to that point. Also, "Bulls On Parade" might be one of the best songs of the decade, hands down.
So, as we usually do, it's time to talk about family once again. After talking about some of the bands my sister showed me, it is time to talk about a band that my brother introduced me to. My brother usually do BBQ at his place on Sundays, so it was very customary for me and my parents to go there and eat, but as soon as my parents left and it was only my brother and I there, it was time to listen to something that my parents wouldn't particularly enjoy. It was in some occasion like that, that ... read more
So here it is, SOAD last effort to date. It's a not a bad one, but definitely their "worst" one so far. Still an above average delivery, but it lacks that punch that all the other albums have. It feels weird, but it is good, trust me.
System of a Down keeps on getting better after a awesome debut album. With Toxicity, they achieve their best work. It evident the evolution after the first album and you can notice in the lyrics all the way through it. It's a "cleaner album", mostly due to the improvements in the production and the fact that everything seemed more polished and well rounded. It's also a classic, since Fantano said it was lol. Just wanted to add that "Psycho" is better than ... read more
Another solid effort from SOAD. It kinda sounds like a new approach to their sound, but it is not. I'll have to say that it does appear to have a closer atmosphere to "Toxicity" than to its predecessor and that works in it's favor. The singles are awesome and "Radio/Video" is definitely in my top song from them.
Before re-listening to their whole discography from front to back again today, I didn't touch a finger in this. Probably because there was no heavy single to carry it and I didn't really cared enough lol, but it definitely blew me away. It's a kinda comeback to their more raw sound that comes from their debut album, since "Toxicity" is more solid and polished. I liked way more than I expected and the final portion of the album bang hard as hell lol
And for my next act, I'm going to write and review System of a Down discography.
In my "Is This It" review I mentioned that my brothers were vital in my musical taste development and this another one of the band my sister was responsible for introducing. But this time we didn't had anything to argue about lol. We both enjoyed a lot of System's classics throughout my childhood and teenage years.
About the album itself, this another one of those album that started a wave after being ... read more
not as bad as I thought it was going to be, ended up liking quite a few song from it. Just want to say that if The Strokes did all their albums as they do their intro songs, they would be one of the best bands in the planet lol
In Angles, The Strokes stepped up from their previous effort. It's a better album in a ton of aspects, due to its improved production and way better vibe. The fact that they made this after "First Impressions..." still bothers me lol. Lastly, I would like to point out that at this point, The Strokes don't have a single bad opening track, with "Machu Pichu" probably sitting in the top for me.
Okay, so this is when stuff starts to get weird. The album looks like it overly plays it self. The singles are great and all, but I really wished it was better. By the score only, it isn't a bad album at all, but it might actually be a disappointing one even with it's quality.
I've already explained almost all my story with The Strokes in the Is This It review, so there's no need to repeat any of that. The sophomore album from the US indie powerhouse is also a very solid delivery. The track list isn't as tight as it's predecessor, but the high point are a little bit higher. "What Ever Happened?" is one of my favorite tracks from their discography.
so, I'm doing some re-rating on some things and realized I needed to take my time to re-listen to The Strokes. While doing it, it was very clear that my memories about it are a bit messed up.
So it's story time lol. When I was younger, my brother and sister were responsible for me taking care of me, since they are way older than me and our parents worked all day. Both my sister and my brother were very influencial on my music taste, but The Strokes story comes from the feminine part. My sister ... read more
Right of the bat, I would like to say that I’m not in the best situation to write this, mostly due to a gigantic headache and some family trouble I’m going through right now. Even with these circumstances, I cannot keep myself from wanting to write something about this album. First, in my honest opinion this is one of the most beautiful albums ever done. Period. I could really stop this review just with that, but I think that would not be enough to show my true love for this ... read more
very similar sound to Swimming, but slightly better in every aspect, starting with the lyrics all the way to production and mood
