One is a defining moment in the band's career, their magnum opus if you would. It's also one of those songs that work better in the context of the music video, might I add, one of the best-directed music videos of all time. This track also features the best Metallica tempo change, all day this song will have you chanting "LANDMINE HAS TAKING MY SIGHT, TAKING MY SPEECH, TAKING MY HEARING, TAKING MY ARMS, TAKING MY LEGS, TAKING MY SOUL" to which it then erupts with the same fury as the veterans who lost everything fight and got almost nothing in return. It's such a cold and straight-to-the-point message, James delivers one of if not his hardest-hitting performance on the breakdown for this track, and Kirk gives arguably his most killer solo on this track. This is all without even talking about the silky smooth guitar licks from Kirk in the first half and James's imagery that is so real that you can possibly just start imagining how terrible it is to have PTSD. Lars's drumming fits into the track by instilling a sense of urgency during the breakdown, the marching-styled drum pattern sells you on the last half. Truly a one of a kind song.
