This is a fascinating little art pop album. I can feel a lot of Bjork influence here, both in the production and the style of singing. It's a pretty good start for Gazelle Twin, and it hits a similar vibe of pretty and soft, yet unnerving at the same time that Bjork does on Vespertine, although obviously not as good. It's still a pretty interesting start for Gazelle Twin, considering how batshit and strange some of her future works turn out to be.
This is a pretty delightful little album. The sound design here is really fascinating, it's one of those albums that sounds like.. metallic. It's really neat. I think a lot of the songs here are a bit too short to really resonate with me and that sort of drags it down, but there's still a handful that just really scratch an itch for me. The top song for me would be "for" which I just find is really satisfying, but "give it back" and "hand" are also ... read more
And thus, my listen through of Patricia Taxxon's TECHDOG series comes to an end. A rather fitting end, despite my low ranking. I intended on doing one of the techdogs every two days, and finishing it right before a trip I was taking for christmas, however I accidentally miscalculated, and the listen through of TECHDOG 7 ended up being on the date of my flight which was a no go, so here I am on December 31st instead, finishing it off with 30 minutes to go before new years.
Just like with ... read more
I am continuing on with my listen through of the TECHDOG series with TECHDOG 6. To sum up my thoughts on TECHDOG 6 in a sentence, I respect what it is going for however it is simply not for me.
Noise as a genre is... extremely polarizing. Not just to me, but for many people! I have personally found that noise songs are either the best shit I've ever heard in my life, or a complete and utter turnoff, and that there's a MASSIVE UNCANNY VALLEY in between there, as there are no noise ... read more
TECHDOG 5 goes in a pretty different direction to the first four. It's one that I do find somewhat interesting, but due to the length of these songs, it does drag on for a LONG TIME. I do not consider this album to be an objectively bad album. It is truly a fascinating piece of art, and it works pretty much perfectly in the scale of Techdog. However, I do have to rate these albums based on how much I enjoy listening to them as music, and I can't say this is something I would be super ... read more
oh hey, we're back to techdog being absolutely fantastic! Wow! I'm surprised, especially with 8 minute songs! Techdog's 2 and 3 were both good, but not GREAT, and I expected as the songs got longer and longer, they'd become more dificult for me to follow and be interested in, but that appears to not be the case as this is my second favourite techdog now! I do feel it has some of the same issues as I had with Techdog 2, where the longer the album goes on, the more abstract it ... read more
This is quite solid! A bit of a step up from Techdog 2, but still not as great as Techdog 1. Though, I feel like we are entering the point where it's difficult to rank these on first listen, since there's quite a bit more going on at this point, and I'm having trouble digesting it all. So there's a solid likelihood that this album grows on me more overtime. Tracks 8 and 9 are my favourites, and track 3 is also really good as well.
Onwards with techdog 2! This one was still pretty solid, but definitely not as good as the first one. I think a lot of these songs, especially near the end got a bit too abstract for me and made me lose interest, whereas in techdog 1 I never failed to retain interest, even through the "worse" songs, although admittedly some of that was to length... as the songs are longer here. It's kind of a shame, as I think some of the techdog 1 songs were excellent but a bit *too* short, and ... read more
Over my winter break I have decided to tackle Patricia Taxxon's "TECHDOG" series, which is 7 albums, each increasing in length. And I gotta say, this is an exceptionally strong start. I really love the textures and sounds in this one! I'm not usually that into songs these short, but they really pack a LOT into such a short runtime, so I'm really into them. My favourite has to be "GETHCOD" cause the vocal samples in this one are CRAZYYYY good. ... read more
I wish it was an album but these are still two VERY solid singles. "You" especially is one of the prettier tracks he's released!
It's... alright. I'm still much more partial to 1 and 3 from the kick series... but this does do a much better job than 4 in the ambient side. The songs here are much more interesting than 4, but I still do find that there's a lot of meandering.
I don't know who is behind the duo of Two Shell, but I have a feeling that it is someone I already know, because these beats feel very remniscient of a lot of other stuff I really like! Something is telling me Burial... but that might just be me being delulu. That being said these are really great beats! I'm enamored with this project and I hope to hear more from the mysterious duo soon!
Wow I wasn't expecting too much from this but it was really great! I think this hit really well for me right now because I just also got into the new Iglooghost album, they both honestly really go hand in hand. That being said "The Law of Club & Fang" is INSANE. This thing goes hard as hell, what a killer beat and BABii's vocals are great here.
Another decently enjoyable house album that doesn't strive to do anything new or exciting. Despite that, it's still pretty solid beats.
Eh... I'm not feeling this one that much. TAAHLIAH has had some really fascinating and fun production in the past but the more energetic songs on this album felt a bit too straightforward for me. Still decently enjoyable, but nothing too special. Then the slower ones are also just... fine. I dunno, I was let down a bit.
Okay so... I had been avoiding this album for a while. Tidal Memory Exo was easily one of my most anticipated albums of 2024 once it was announced- Iglooghost has such a unique and fascinating production style that has always really fascinated me- even if a lot of his stuff has been REALLY hard to get into. It took me 3 years to truly understand the magnificence of Neo Wax Bloom, but I eventually came around to LOVING that album! Likewise, Lei Line Eon also took me like 2 years to come around ... read more
ionnalee continues her unique style of synth pop initially founded on her iamamiwhoami project, and it's... pretty good! It's nothing new or unique for her, she stays in her usual lane, which is slightly disappointing, but I'm honestly not too upset because "her lane" is already rather unique and really pretty!
Okay I've never really been that huge on metal but honestly, I still enjoy this decently enough. Especially the song "crystallized" that goes hard as HELLLLLLL
I.... feel kind of bad for this ranking. I don't know the movie this is supposed to be based off of, so I unfortunately don't have any attachment to it. Normally I would skip rating this altogether, but I do want to rate every single patricia taxxon album eventually (This is #17 for me!) so unfortunately it'll have to get this low rank since I'm just not really that into this. I did really like "smokestacks" though, probably because it was the only song that ... read more
