Just finished my first listen to this album and it already feels like a classic
This album is really nifty! It combines Patricia Taxxon normal elements of bubblegum and glitch pop but with a more IDM feel to them and it comes out really well! The biggest highlight of this album would have to be "Truly, Granted" because I adore the weirdness of the beat and how it progresses. 4.5/4 is not a real time signature, but this feels like it is (9/8 is the real time signature I'm 85% sure). The way it switches in the second half is also satisfying as hell. The song ... read more
It's a one track, 40 minute nonstop house album, with sprinkles of dubstep and techno in different parts. It's long, it's nice, it's not the most memorable, but it is VERY consistent. It makes good background music. That's about it.
This was excellent! Out of the 12 or so Patricia Taxxon albums I've heard so far, this currently ranks 3rd. It just has a really fun vibe and really interesting experimentation. I don't really know how to describe this album has "extremely happy to the point of mania" because some of these songs feel like the person behind them is going CRAZY. "Bocce" is probably the most interesting song on here, and the one I expect people to enjoy the most, as Patricia ... read more
...Okay clearly I'm missing something here. Which makes me sad! This was really hyped up to me (and here on aoty) but I just couldn't connect with it unfortunately. It's not bad or anything. It just... does not stick in my mind.
This is nice. I think it could have used a little bit more variety, but it still has some really sick beats. The highlight for sure is the first song "Ku", really great beats, really fun progression, despite being a bit straightforward, especially when it comes to breakcore and other sounding stuff.
I really really love the texture Dan Deacon creates, that's the biggest thing about this album. Unfortunately... I do think this is probably his weakest album. It's certainly not bad, but there's a lot of stuff on here that just... does not really stick, and it honestly needed a bit more variation, like what he achieves more on future albums, especially Mystic Familiar and Gliss Riffer. It's still good though but it really drags towards the second half.
This is more of a compilation project rather than an album considering some of these singles are nearing a decade old, but, whatever. It's pretty nice! I don't think It's Kite's strongest work, that goes to V. But it still has some REALLY great songs. "Don't take the light away", "Panic Music" and "Hand Out The Drugs" are all killer tracks, heavily bringing the album up, but then there's a lot of stuff that just kind of goes in one ear ... read more
Susanne Sundfor genuinely makes some of the best music ever. I'm surprised she's not more well known, because this is genuinely incredible. Ten Love Songs was genuinely incredible. Everything she does is so magical and enchanting, it's amazing. "White Foxes" is the major highlight of this album I would say, this song is just absolutely stunning in every possible way. I can't believe it exists. The rest of the album is insane too. I'm someone who generally ... read more
Cecile Believe has probably the coolest vocals out of anyone I've heard, and I've always felt like she has the ability to become a significantly larger artist, but has never put out a truly great project, however I do feel like this EP is a big step in the right direction. Most people would probably know her as the vocals on "Ponyboy" by the late SOPHIE, and if you like that song, you'll probably like this project, as it's sort of like that song but toned down a ... read more
EASILY the best of the trio, both Gelb and Rosa have multiple songs I REALLY dislike but this one only has one, being "Out Of Space", and it also has just, on average, way better songs generally. "Escape" is the personal highlight here, that song is beautiful. "Moons" is also really pretty, and "Ghost Note Groove" is such a strange but intriguing piece, I love how the samples all come together, usually anything spoken word like that I tend to dislike but ... read more
Another low score for the ballet trio... yeah I feel kind of bad because this music isn't really "bad" persay, it just hits a lot of personal things in music that I tend to really dislike and also goes into certain electronic music genres I really hate (dubstep). As I said in the Gelb review, it's not actively bad, and it's significantly more tolerable for me than most other music of this genre, but still I'm just not into it. Overall I found this one generally ... read more
Yeesh. Okay I am surprised, I was expecting to enjoy this album based on what I heard about it but... man I really don't like the vocal mixing on most of these songs, especially on the second half of the album. Fighting Trim and Hellbulb especially. Also I am a massive dubstep hater and a lot of these songs... well I'll say it's not as egregious as mainstream dubstep, that's for sure. But Alien, Fighting Trim, and Bauhaus were extremely annoying for me. Sorry Patricia ... read more
This was solid but I was a little disappointed. The album started off SO strong, my favourite 3 tracks are literally 3 of the first 4 songs, but it slowly kinda fell off after that. Not bad for sure! Just not the most memorable.
Hmmm I definitely think this is a step down from part 1. It's a little disappointing to me, because some of these songs feel like they could have been great but just fell short.
"Nine Red Squares" is probably the worst on here, but it really didn't have to be- Sewerslvt has been genuinely stunning ambient tracks before, such as "Death & Humanity" and "Rsod" but this one just does not go anywhere.
"Ekstaasi" is my favourite and I do really ... read more
This album is nice. Minimalistic Techno but quite pleasing. Does get a tad bit stale towards the second half as the songs all sort of blend in to each other, but still, a nice listen.
"Over The Ice" and "A Little Heart Beats So Fast" are the two standouts for me, particularly because of the vocal chops in these two. They're really cool.
It's pretty! But also pretty unmemorable ambient music. Highlights are "blinded" and the closer "please hold".
This is really fun! Even though I think it's a really mixed bag across the board in terms of song quality, I think it has a lot of extremely good songs. In particular, "CHANGEDD" in my opinion is the absolute highlight, I love the sounds on this one. "Conversation Starter" and "Can We!" were also highlights. The Jlin feature on "NICE 2 MEET U" was also pretty nice. Some songs like "Best 16", "WORK XPERIENCE" and "Watch Me ... read more
It's a pretty nice ambient album. It's not really groundbreaking ambient music or anything, but it doesn't need to be. I can't say I'm as huge on it as other Patricia Taxxon albums but I think it accomplishes what it sets out to do fairly well. Personal favourite being Astral 4, really really pretty build. Astral 3 and 6 are pretty forgettable to me, and I'm not really a fan of long spoken word passages in songs a la astral 5. Astral's 1, 2, and 7 however are ... read more
