WHO PUT JUMPSCARES IN MY BUBBLEGUM SYNTH POP ALBUM????
This album truly represents what I absolutely love about patricia taxxon as an artist- she dives head first into taking risks within her music unlike any other artist I've really heard. Which I'll get to.
This album for the most part is really cutesy and really experimental! The first track "Homeward Demon" is both my favourite song, and also the perfect introduction for what is to come. This song starts us off with ... read more
Fantastic album from Hakushi Hasegawa! This was a highly anticipated album from me thanks to getting into the wonderfully chaotic "Air Ni Ni" earlier this year in march, and this absolutely delivered, I think this is the most chaotic I've heard Hakushi Hasegawa sound yet. His songs all have a really fascinating texture to me and this album takes that texture and ramps it up to pretty much the most extreme it can go. The top 3 highlights for me are "Gone" where the ... read more
Yeah, I'm not feeling this. This album feels like if you took Burial, but removed the mysteriousness and elegance from Burial. Which to me, those are THE most important and vital parts of Burial! So removing them leaves a big ol' nothingburger for me. I was fully prepared to give this an even lower ranking, but the last two songs here, "Where Did We Go Wrong?" and "TMPL" I actually felt some semblance of positive emotion to! It was not particularly strong, but when ... read more
Wow. I am in complete awe of this album. This album tells such a fantastic story of dealing with dysphoria and attempting to escape it's grasps.
This album starts off with "Foley" which is both beautiful yet very empty and depressing. We are instantly starting in the pits here, this song feels like desperately wanting to be hopeful, but just not being able to see the light. It uses big "punches" of noise that within this album, to me, represent that feeling of ... read more
This album is pretty nifty! It's got a nice mix of bangers and chiller moments. The absolute highlight of this album is "Cavalry" for me which is a super fast paced chiptune x pop song with a gorgeous progression. It hits a certain niche in my brain that I can only describe as fast beat, faster melody, chaotic notes everywhere with a large buildup. 10/10 song. When it comes to the slow moments, the highlight for me is absolutely "Chipshop", which I can only describe as ... read more
Eh. It's pretty, but it honestly feels... extremely bare. Extremely run of the mill. I can't really pick much apart about this album. It's EXTREMELY minimalistic in its sound palette which isn't always a bad thing but the rest of what this album provides unfortunately cannot bring that up for me though. However this does server as really nice background music.
This is relatively straightforward synthwave, but it honestly still sounds really nice. "Underworld" and "Cycle" are both really gorgeous, these two are definitely the highlights. "Xandra" is exhilerating, although not as interesting as those two. The other two songs, "Soul Waste" and "Ascension" are honestly a bit dull, but not excruciating by any means. Fairly decent little EP.
Kelly Lee Owens makes... really elegant minimalist music. That's this albums strong suit, and yet also a fault as I feel it sometimes loses itself in the vibes it's trying to create, sacrificing being interesting for the sake of being pretty. However I can say that's mostly not the case as this album for the most part manages to do both! Songs like Lucid and Throwing Lines are especially highlights for me, Kelly's ethereal vocals paired with a minimalistic production style ... read more
This is an album that has been on my radar for a long time, particularly due to my adoration of the song "Surf Solar", the first song on this album. There was just something so beautiful and fascinating about the textures and vocal chops on this song, yet also incredibly devastating, I can't really describe it. So I was really excited to check the rest of this album out too, and I can safely say it holds up to my love of that song. I will say, if you're not vibing with that ... read more
Going into this album I was apprehensive because Cornelius' 2023 album was one of my least favourite albums of 2023, but I can safely say that this one is signifcantly better. I still don't LOVE it persay, but it is overall MUCH better for sure. The things the songs have going for them the most is that they're mostly very pretty, even if a lot of them aren't really that interesting. Songs like "Melting Moment" and "Windmills" are just a really pleasant ... read more
This album annoys me. Because I feel like it had potential but just does the bare minimum for a lot of these songs. I feel like this album just feels... rushed and without too much thought into it, and feels like a really disappointing follow up to the legendary and strange "The Church". There are a couple of good songs. "End Of The World" is pretty neat, and is the first time I've genuinely enjoyed a song with Skrillex attached! "Ok Then" is a pretty solid ... read more
Blanck Mass makes some of the absolute sickest mind melting music out there, and this album is absolutely incredible. The best way I can describe it is densely layered, frantic cacophonies of sound that sound both absolutely hellish and demonic, yet also beautiful and transcendent, and also surprisingly groovy and dancy! Let me emphasize the DENSE part though, because there's just so, so much going on in every single song it's almost hard to keep track. Overall absolutely stellar.
This album kind of objectively is trash but I honestly think it's really funny. Something about the way the vocals are manipulated here when compared to other music in this sort of genre is just fascinating to my ears, I can't even describe. The album is so fucking ugly from start to finish, everything about it is just so gross, but in a way that surprisingly is interesting to me? I absolutely don't recommend this album to anyone. But I find it fascinating.
I think it's pretty good. Although I do wish there was a bit more variation in the instrumental palette of these songs as it does get a bit tiring, especially in the second half. However, it still leads to some really great songs. I'm a bit confused on the "Arkteon" songs though, which do feel a bit out of place for me.
I get what this is going for but I think these songs needed to be longer because they don't feel super fleshed out.
This is actually exceptional, in the weirdest way possible. Take a pretty standard electro house album and then shove weird little quirks in at EVERY single place you possibly can, and you get this album! There's just such a strange sound to the songs on this thing that I just can't get out of my head. The song "Ham" is this weird grimy banger, "iSoap" has this trumpet sounding lead that sounds perfectly off kilter but gets stuck in my head, "Torero" is ... read more
This is amazing. My weak spot in music is that I haven't really gotten much into music that isn't in english, but I can now say that I have, because this album is really fun electro pop! Nearly every single song has something special to the production that I don't see much in other songs and that really drew me in. Honestly love this and I am excited to check out more of her work!
Honestly a bit more of a mixed bag in Charli's catalogue for me but mostly still has some really cool stuff. A couple misses though.
This is crazy, in the best way. I'm usually a HATER of screaming in music, most of the time it just messes it up for me, (that's a personal issue not an objective fact) but on here I find it significantly more tolerable than I usually find it. Overall this album slaps.
This is a pretty solid witch house album. Admittedly it is one of those projects that has one song that just completely outshines everything else on here- that being Eternal Rest which is genuinely one of the greatest songs in this genre, period. The rest of it is still good... but it PALES in comparison to that song which captures this vibe more perfectly than I can even describe.
