This is surprisingly really neat. And also surprisingly Sega Bodega's most active and exhilerating project overall? Most of his stuff is more on the quieter side, the moodier side, but some of these tracks have pretty big heights that I wasn't expecting. Sun Loop and Broken Ribs in particular are the highlights. Overall good EP!
This EP reminds me a lot of Stretch 2 by Arca. Creative and freaky but still pretty early into an artists discography.
This is Sega Bodega's first ever project and it's surprisingly pretty good. Not the most inventive but overall pretty good deco club. Did enjoy.
I think this is a more mixed bag for Patricia Taxxon. There are some absolutely insane songs such as Cilantro and Nine Stars, but a lot more really... confusing songs to me too. Also sometimes the vocals I feel are a bit off key... but when they're not, they hit really hard. It's fascinating overall though.
One of the greatest pop albums I have ever heard. Every song on this album is magnificent and flows together insanely well. I really cannot give this album enough praise.
Honestly this is a surprisingly strong EP! Most people would know this from the title track being used in SummoningSalt videos, and going into it I was worried that that would be the only great track surrounded by a bunch of zzzz tracks but I can pleasantly say that is not the case as this synthwave/dubstep album manages to keep me entertained throughout most of its short runtime. Virtuous and Nothing Is Lost are especially great tracks alongside the obvious Wavetable, the only song that's kind ... read more
I mean it's fine. It's mostly in one ear out the other though. Overall okay. Move witch was nice, but I don't see myself coming back to it, or anything else really.
I was honestly expecting this to go in one ear and out the other but I am pleasantly surprised at how engaging this is. I think the nifty thing about this album is how retro PC Music it feels. Like, I just cant help but compare the dumb campy energy to the very first PC Music compilation. They don't gaf about what anyone else has to say, they're just there to be simple and fun! Back then that album got heavily criticized for not being deep and being really strange compared to everything else ... read more
This album is pretty decent. I would say that most of the songs are just alright, generally not anything special, I definitely like the more electro pop oriented songs over the more rock oriented songs. And an album being Just Fine would normally make me rank it lower but the song Slowing Down is an absolute banger and completely surpasses everything else on this album by a mile so I will be generous and give it a 70 just for that
This album is actually insane. Vylet Pony has a certain style of glitch pop that is just so immensely satisfying to my ears. I think her biggest strength is honestly transitions, not between songs, but in the middle of songs. She takes pop structures and really pushes them to their limits with some crazy passages of buildup leading to immensely satisfying bursts of energies or otherwise unexpected but extremely pleasant parts. Not to mention the sound palette on this thing is extremely diverse ... read more
Man this thing is a complete stinker. The beats are fine, nothing great or special, but decent enough. However the vocals are actively horrendous and drag this album down to being just an absolute slog to get through. I wasn't going into this with really high hopes or anything but man it was just not enjoyable for me.
This is top tier art pop. Fans of Bjork, get on over here and stream this because it is absolutely fantastic. Hauntingly beautiful and every song comes together to create an overall experience that is absolutely wonderful. Personal favourite is Messenger, as it feels like the climax and has a really incredible transition and absolutely transcendent violin solo at the end. Overall extremely great album.
Well, Machinedrum has been one of my favourite artists I've discovered in 2024 with the amazing human energy but unfortunately the direction he is going in with this album is just not for me. And that's sad! Because this is a fairly pleasant album, I'm sure most other people will get something out of it, especially if you like any of the features (which there are a LOT), but this direction of chill pop/rap producer is just my cup of tea. Oh well.
This is a cute little synth pop album taking small inspiration from other genres such as bubblegum bass, dnb, ambient, r&b, and indie on various different songs, but never straying super deeply into them. Overall it comes together quite nicely. Living My Life Over is really really beautiful, definitely the best song on here. Overall a pretty solid project.
Somehow I didn't know about these two early magbay eps night/pop and day/pop? Well anyways the first 3 songs are fine, decent, but not great, a bit of vaporwave inspo I feel, but then Move Slow is straight up fire. Randomly one of Mag Bay's best songs. Overall cute lil ep
I decided to check this out after really enjoying Jlin's recent album and I can confidently say... this was nowhere near as good LOL unfortunate. I'm not super versed in the footwork genre so that might be it but the sound on Akoma was significantly more intriguing than this!! Some of the vocal chops were a bit on the annoying side and oh my god that "thousand j" sample in like every song got very annoying. This was regretfully a miss for me.
Ehh. I'm not so sure about this one. One of the biggest issues with ambient music is that a LOT of it just fades into the background and is kind of forgettable and I think that this unfortunately largely falls into that camp, no matter how pretty many of the beats are.
death's dynamic shroud and galen tipton are two artists I discovered separately, galen tipton in 2021, and dds in 2022, and while neither I was instantly in love with, over time I have grown to love both more and more. However, I genuinely never would have thought to pair them together, as they're both so so different, but honestly, that just makes this album an insane experience because both of their production styles come together in incredibly unique ways, that I've never quite heard before ... read more
