Woah. I am pleasantly surprised by this little EP. I had not heard of this artist before but upon checking it out I was greeted with a very dark, spacious, and ethereal vibe that is very gorgeous. I love the little details in this thing, and for those who patiently endure is an utterly insane gorgeous track. Overall this was really really good.
hhh I hate to give Arca such a low ranking but this is easily her worst project imo. There is only one song that I found any enjoyment out of and that was Xenomorphgirl. The rest of the songs on this project range from plain & boring to actively annoying to listen to. Complete miss on all aspects for me.
Slow Magic's debut genre does a pretty good job and creating a very warm pleasant and inviting feeling, and while he does have better, it's a really pretty start to his music career.
After more than 10 years since their last album Backwash, I was surprised yet excited to listen to this album, but unfortunately it failed to reach the highs that backwash did. It's not bad by any means, but just kinda "oh that's nice" easy listening synthwave that you forget about pretty quickly.
Decent yet fairly unremarkable project from Slow Magic. I don't have much to say except it was find, just not as memorable as some of his other stuff!
This is a fairly middle of the road album for World's End Girlfriend imo. I think the first half is honestly fairly forgettable in the grand scheme of things but once you hit the three part bohemian purgatory things take a turn, and get darker. And the rest of the songs form out there build on this darkness in a very grand way, leading to the biggest one two punch right at the end with the climax noisy cacophany of "The Offering Inferno" immediately followed by the haunting almost ... read more
It's a pretty fine, yet honestly fairly unremarkable IDM release. I think the strongest thing this album has going for it is its beats, they're pretty unique and fun, however the melodies and song structures are kind of standard and leave a lot of this album just feeling really samey. It's good as background noise but I can't say I was particularly intrigued or find myself wanting to revisit it.
I think this album is decent but definitely a bit of a rough debut. The writing is kind of choppy at times (why does the song U Suck even exist...) and the vocals get a bit annoying and samey at times. There's still some fairly decent songs on this, however it very strongly feels like a new artist first experimenting with their sound without really being able to properly perfect it just yet.
pretty easily the worst WEG album of the ones I've heard. It's exceedingly boring, the freestyle type beats are nice, but when they go on for that long without any sense of progression it just dulls out REAL fast. Speaking of progression, this album completely lacks any! Overall not terrible but kind of just background noise for me.
For such a small project I'm highly impressed with what it manages to accomplish. All 3 of the songs here pack a punch both production wise and vocal wise to make something honestly highly satisfying.
Continuing on my Arca discography rankdown, is probably her wildest set of songs, kick iii! This is much better than kick ii for sure, although I do definitely like kick i more than this, this is still a really fantastic and fascinating set of songs. It honestly feels like a culmination of Arca's work all the way from the start to now. I can't help but compare songs on here to previous songs in various generations of Arca's discography, and they all come together really well into an overall ... read more
Unfortunately, while this is pleasant, I just can't help but find myself kind of zone out every time I listen to this. I think this is more of a me thing than anything else, but even Machinedrums contemporaries in this kind of sound stand out more to me. Alright, but unfortunately kind of a miss, lacking in any highlights.
I think how big of a four tet fan you are is directly correlated to how much you will enjoy this album. This is so unmistakably four tet that... it honestly misses a bit for me? Like. It's pretty. But it doesn't really accomplish anything new for me. So anyone who's already in love with Four Tet's sound and wants more, will adore this. However if you want something unique that stands out, this isn't gonna be it for you. I like it, but I don't love it. It's just so... it's unmistakably four tet!
Another re-rank here, and once again Andy Stott blows me away with his sound. I find this album to be overall probably his most "positive" sounding album, but I certainly would not call this a positive album as it still maintains and builds on the dreamy sorrowful mysterious soundscapes Andy Stott has always been so privy to. With the exception of Ballroom, which I personally find a bit grating, every other song on this album (or I guess, double EP) is Andy in tippy top shape.

Andy Stott has an uncanny ability to create these distant, expansive, ambient landscapes that are unlike anything else I have ever heard. It's seriously so impressive to me how distinct and incredible his style is. While Luxury Problems was more groovy, this album is a bit darker in tone, and less house-focused. While I prefer the grooves on Luxury Problems, I'd say this album definitely has the upper hand on Luxury Problems in how emotionally evocative it is. In particular, Violence is the ... read more
Re-reviewing this because I wanted to re-visit it since it's been a while.
This is peak Andy Stott in my opinion. The soundscapes here are THICK and immeasurable, they feel so massive and incomparable to anything else. There's less songs on here compared to other Andy Stott albums, but they make up in their length being over 5 or 6 minutes in most cases, and they all come together perfectly to create a certain vibe that's beautiful, immersive, and so, so empty at the same time. For anyone ... read more
Overall I think this album is pretty solid. I'm not well versed in BABii or Kai Whiston's stuff, but I think they complement Iglooghost's material really well. Sometimes with collab projects you can sort of feel where different songs are primarily made by different people, but this album felt really consistent throughout. The only thing keeping me from ranking it higher is that it doesn't have anything I love, just a lot of stuff I like!
This is wonderful! I thing what this album succeeds most in doing is being able to arrange so many sounds and textures so well. Often times if you have too many sounds and textures, it can very often become overwhelming and messy, but I never found this to be that at all. I'm just impressed at all the sounds it manages to blend together so well. Overall a very fast paced and very happy album.
After the complete radical shakeup that was Human Energy, Machinedrum continues the more positive vibes however chills out into less of a bubblegum bass style vibe, and more r&b and rap vibes, plus a surprise visit from some plunderphonics! Seriously, I'm surprised at how many of these songs sound like they would fit onto an Avalanches record, Believe In U being the prime example of that. While I don't enjoy it as much as I do Human Energy, I still think it's a pretty great addition to his ... read more
