Ehh. I liked glow-zone better. The songs there were much more catchy tbh- and I know this is a different genre but still- I tend to like this genre but this didn't really stick with me
Actually quite pleasant! Not as good as other early vapor releases by DDS such as regret when it was lost or the classic i'll try living like this but it's def better than some of their other stuff from back then, the structure of the songs here are maybe lacking a bit but it still comes together really cohesively and has a lot of cool sounds. Pleasant album.
TOP 3 SONGS: SIDE BAE (ULTIMATE CATHARSIS), AMATEUR, THIGH GAP
With this album, I'm finally through all of dds' recent stuff, with only 2019 and earlier albums to listen to. And just like all of their recent stuff, I like this! Although not as much as their other recent stuff, but it's still really good. For me, apart from just to be needed and tear in abyss, this lacks generally the more emotional side of dds' recent stuff, but it's still pretty good vibes.
TOP 3 SONGS: Tear In Abyss, Someone In The Room, Pop Chin
I genuinely can't believe I'm saying this, and I think it is something I will never say again about an album, but I wish this album were less consistent with its song structures. What I loved about Igorrr's earlier stuff is that they felt completely all over the place, still with a rhythm, but constantly changing every ten seconds, and just going crazy. This doesn't have that as much. It's still pretty good though but doesn't scratch the same itch I want from angry music.

After listening to PROTO, and having VERY MIXED experiences with it, I decided to stream this one, expecting the same- a relatively equal mix of loving and hating songs. And I... did not exactly get that but I certainly did get the huge mix of opinions on each track! The bad tracks on this thing have the same issue as the bad tracks on PROTO for me- they just don't really go anywhere and maybe have some interesting sounds but there's just no substance to them for me. However, the best songs I ... read more
I'm just not feeling this one. It's very meandering and a lot of the songs just don't really go anywhere... It's very pretty but I just don't find any attachment to any of these songs, which is unfortunate! I far prefer ITLLT and RWIWL for that dds vaporwave.
This has a lot of nice songs, but on the back half I think most of the songs became really dull or just repetitive from the first half but I also may be negatively biased towards them because while in the middle of listening to this album, graves in particular, there was a sudden mass evacuation on the subway I was taking to get to university, and I had to pause and scramble to find another route and I got totally lost. When I finally streamed the rest of those songs I was so worn out that I ... read more
Pretty solid hyperpop. A couple less interesting songs as is inevitable but honestly has some really nice sounding stuff.
TOP 3 SONGS: nomore, portal, just like you
I think this is nice. It's a bit more refined than WLFGRL which means that my least favourite tracks on this thing I find boring, compared to my least fav tracks on WLFGRL I found grating. It still has the same adrenaline feeling to it imo, but it's a bit more easy listening with the synths. Overall still pretty good though.
TOP 3 SONGS: Lilith, Cloud99 (As Above Mix), Dead on the Scene (So Below Mix)
Once again, a very bizarre collection of songs from Jockstrap. Robert is my personal favourite, its slight industrial tones and the sudden switchups are really strange but really interesting. The rest of the stuff doesn't attract my attention as much but it's still a good showing.
Continuing my Arca project listen through, finally onto her debut album, project #4, Xen! And this is my favourite one yet, just barely beating out stretch 2. I find that this album is much more emotionally impactful than what I am used to hearing from her and it generally works in its favour. I think specifically the songs on this album that are the best are when it goes as industrial as possible, in cases like the title track, and Bullet Chained. The more slower moments are hit or miss for ... read more
This is definitely a step up in Arca's discography. It's the first project where I feel genuinely attached to multiple songs. It still has some of the same pitfalls that Stretch 1 had, in that being "early experimental artist doesn't have complete control over their sound yet" but she's def starting to get there with this and I know she achieves it in the future so I'm excited to see where this goes.
TOP 3 SONGS: Brokeup, Meditation, 2 Blunted
Wow... this is by far my longest review. Sorry. It's a lot of rambling and a lot of switching subjects. But I had a lot of thoughts about this album and by god I am going to get them all out!
So anyone who knows me knows that I like experimental music and there's a certain type of experimental music that doesn't have an easily definable genre but some of my favourite artists of all time fall into it, such as katie gately, anna meredith, bjork, and dan deacon. I call it "experimental ... read more
Gonna have to give this a yikes. Going into this I was not expecting anything crazy, I've streamed multiple recent albums of dds, and multiple old albums of dds, and I have adored basically all of what I've heard. This however... is unfortunately by far my least favourite dds album I've heard. It really does feel like the transitional era between their classic vapor stuff and their modern glitch pop stuff, and while they truly have come a long way in perfecting a distinct and highly enjoyable ... read more
I think it's pretty, but it's definitely lacking in highs. However I do feel like with the direction that iglooghost went with this album, it's kind of hard to make high's considering igloo's past works. But that isn't a bad thing, because this thing is cohesively beautiful, but it just works more as a whole experience than each individual track. I have a lot of respect for igloo for switching it up though and not just sticking to the sound we know from him beforehand, because it is really ... read more
This is the second Arca project that I am listening to (Started with &&&&&) as I go in order to listen to all of her major projects and... yeah this sounds about as I expected. I find with most experimental producers, their earliest stuff is quite frankly, not super good, but it is interesting or unique enough to put them out there into the scene, and only later on are they able to really perfect a sound for themself. Arca is no different. It's alright... but I know arca ... read more
For a collection of B-sides, it's almost as good as the album it was from. (Darklife) It basically continues the themes of darklife but it feels a tad bit more messy, and there's definitely some more dull songs here, but it is honestly still pretty spectacular. Some of the songs even feel like they have a tad more industrial feel to them than what's on darklife. Overall amazing experience.
TOP 3 SONGS: Phantom You, In Four Parts | You Are Burning Me Up Like This | Cover My Eyes
Jockstrap definitely made a big splash with their first EP. I do find that some of the experimentalness of it is... to the detriment of the music itself but that's just often how debut stuff goes and despite that it is really really cool and unique, and I enjoy it a lot.
TOP 3 SONGS: Hayley, Joy, Charlotte
Ngl it's honestly fire. Music doesn't have to be super meaningful or emotional to be good. This is jittery mindless hyperpop with no meaning BUT ITS FIIIIIIREEEEE so I don't care. Literally it's so good it's music to turn your brain off to and just totally vibe out to the utter chaos and insanity of it.
Like, genuinely, whenever I want to pull an all nighter, and I get really fucking tired and need to force myself to stay up, this is the kind of music I play, because it is stimulating, and ... read more
