death's dynamic shroud - Midnight Tangerine
95

Okay. Damn. I have been missing out on death's dynamic shroud for sure. This album is certainly more poppier than most of the rest of their stuff, but man, it hits in all the same places that DDS does. I actually get Baths vibes from a lot of the songs on this album, but if he did a bit darker music. Overall absolutely stunning.
TOP 3 SONGS: Moonbow, 11 Months, Hologram World

death's dynamic shroud - Transcendence Bot
97

Jesus christ. I really missed this one. With the reissue, I've decided to check out the three DDS albums now that they're on spotify and what can I say, this one has instantly become my favourite by them. The thickness and intensity is really unmatched and honestly, perfect. I will be looping this one for sure.
TOP 3 SONGS: Profane Angelic Function, Over Again, Spirit of Loneliness

Blank Banshee - 4D
91

Blank Banshee is someone I've known for a while exclusively through the song Teen Pregnancy, which I honestly always thought was a rather annoying song, so I wasn't exactly clamoring to stream this album, it wasn't until 3 days ago where I was bored, not really sure what music to listen to when I remembered this existed and decided to give it a whirl, because why not. I ended up completely shocked at how interesting and versatile the sound is on here. This thing is really one of the greatest ... read more

COUCOU CHLOE - FEVER DREAM
34

I just. I don't see how this is appealing at all. I love many of the artists that coucou chloe is associated with, but her stuff has always been a massive miss for me. I could not find any tracks that stand out in any unique or interesting way.

Kin Leonn - mirror in the gleam
77

It's a really beautiful ambient album. With this sort of genre, songs not following a very typical song structure, it's very easy for songs to become monotonous and dull, and while this album does have some moments that fall into that trap, for the most part, it's still exceptionally engaging and beautiful.
TOP 3 SONGS: en trance, dawn memo, ghost strata

Igorrr - Nostril
95

This is absolutely fantastic. This is easily the best breakcore that I've ever heard. Incredibly engaging and unpredictable, and real head thrashing music. It's perfect angry music.
TOP 3 SONGS: Moldy Eye, Tendon, Unpleasant Sonata

Vorso - Holonomy
65

It's a lot. Most of the time that's generally a positive thing. There's no moments on it that are particularly bad, but a lot of it kind of falls to the wayside for me. I think for the type of people this is especially catered towards (some strain of dubstep/techno etc), they'll love it, and I am just not one of those people, although I still enjoy a handful of songs
TOP 3 SONGS: Coastline Paradox, Big Drum, Shroud

Iglooghost - Neō Wax Bloom
94

I don't know why I didn't get into this album earlier than now. I've always been aware of it, I've always enjoyed it, but I've always preferred the clear tamei ep, and didn't really replay much from this album. But now that I'm listening more, I'm realizing how unique and incredible it is. With every listen, I'm getting more and more out of it. This thing is one of the coolest and most unique sounding things I've heard in a while.
TOP 3 SONGS: Peanut Choker, Teal Yomi / Olivine, Super Ink Bursk

Glasser - Crux
96

This album feels like if it was sung by bjork, it would sit really nicely somewhere in the bjork catalogue, and that is a compliment. I only have known glasser previously by her song "Apply" which was a pretty solid song, but not one that made me particularly interested in checking out the rest of her stuff, so I came into this album not expecting very much. However, I was surprised at how unique and interesting the sounds on this album are. Many really incredible beats, and otherwise ... read more

Arca - &&&&&
60

My first Arca project in my series of going through every single one (I have already done kick i and stretch 2 though) and I gotta admit this one was... not the most interesting to me. I'm sure that in that time period it was probably unique and creative but hearing it after I already know and love Arca's more evolved stuff, it just doesn't really grip me like her other stuff does.
TOP 3 SONGS: Waste, Fossil, Obelisk

TOKiMONSTA - Fovere
84

I really don't understand why this is ranked significantly lower than most of her other projects. I don't find it to be the MOST groundbreaking she's ever done, but it's still got some amazing stuff despite the short runtime.
TOP 3 SONGS: Put It Down, Giving Up, I'm Waiting

TOKiMONSTA - Cosmic Intoxication
68

This is an interesting start to TOKiMONSTA- the songs here are a bit more experimental sounding than what she later refines into, but fpr the most part, they don't really capture my attention all too much. Still decent though.
TOP 3 SONGS: Smoke & Mirrors, Playing With Toys, Doing It My Way

TOKiMONSTA - Midnight Menu
65

With the exception of Sa Mo Jung, I feel like TOKiMONSTA hasn't totally found a footing yet. The songs here are nice, but they're very forgettable, and since there are so many I just don't ever really find myself coming back to it.

Hannah Diamond - Perfect Picture
88

I think this is a pretty good sendoff for PC Music, assuming this is the last album they're releasing. I find that comparing this to reflections, reflections has more really big hits, but also big misses. So while this album has less really big great moments, it is far far more consistent than reflections was. I feel overall production wise this is pretty safe for PC Music, but I think it works really well in their favor and as a result this is one of my favourite albums released this year.

Oneohtrix Point Never - Again
89

This was easily one of my most anticipated albums of 2023 especially after seeing it get compared to Garden Of Delete, which is easily my favourite OPN album. And it delivered, maybe not to the extent that I was hoping for, but altogether this album is still fantastic. I feel like it draws a lot of similarities to R Plus Seven and some of his earliest ambient albums, while also managing to fuse that with many unique ideas and unique sounds that doesn't quite sound like anything else out ... read more

Daft Punk - Homework
63

It's a pretty classic house record and I'm glad it put them out there but compared to Discovery and RAM, this just aint it. Still like a good chunk of stuff here though, but it's bloated for me.
TOP 3 SONGS: Revolution 909, Burnin', Around The World

Boards of Canada - Music Has the Right to Children
75

All I can say is this album changed the direction electronic music was going in and I thank it for that.
TOP 3 SONGS: Telephasic Workshop, Aquarius, Triangles & Rhombuses

Björk - Post
72

Overall the big hit songs hit MUCH more than they did in Debut, but also the misses miss MUCH more than they did in Debut. However, I'm more inclined to take more positive songs influencing my ranking that more negative songs.
TOP 3 SONGS: Hyperballad, Enjoy, Army Of Me

Björk - Debut
69

Overall solid, definitely not one of my favs though, as it's for the most part a lot more chill than most of her other stuff but I still enjoyed a handful of songs.
TOP 3 SONGS: One Day, Venus As A Boy, Come To Me

Gorillaz - Gorillaz
70

Pretty intriguing for a debut. But not the most exceptional thing they have to offer.
TOP 3 SONGS: Double Bass, Tomorrow Comes Today, 5/4

"absolutely stellar review"
On Sega Bodega - Dennis
"Yeah exactly. In Sega's music, he tends to embrace a really feminine side of being a man through both the production and the lyrics, which is much more typical of LGBT artists since this music and the themes tends to habit a more gender fluid space associated with the LGBT (part of the reason why I like it cause I'm gay lol). Ultimately to me it doesn't really matter if he is straight or not, the music is incredible, it was just kind of surprising lmaooo"

"no problem and ofc yeah, she was one of the first queer people that I really looked up to and made me feel comfy in my own body as a queer person so it hit really hard but I take solace in the fact that I am not the only one she impacted in that way with her work"
On BaddieBaphomet's review of SOPHIE - OIL OF EVERY PEARL'S UN-INSIDES
"god when you talked about the day sophie died it brought me right back to that too cause that was also the very first thing I saw when I woke up. I remember back then it was the height of covid so I was sleeping in absurdly late so I woke up just to go to the washroom and checked my phone and that was the first thing I saw and I was so shocked to the core that I could not fall back to sleep whatsoever. Also glad you mentioned Um Um as that has become one of my fav songs of all time and is one of the only ones that is able to consistently make me tear up LOL. Also want to mention Lost Everything by A.G. Cook & EasyFun (and Remi Wolf on vocals) off of their latest album cause that was also dedicated to her, it's another one that really hits me to the core. Really loved this writeup thank you a ton, from one queer person to another <3"
