Fuck it I'm glazing.
My overall pessimism and outlook on life lately has massively changed as a result of the political climate of the world. Depression is always something that's affected me, but the feeling that the whole world is kind of just fucked has never been truer in my lifetime than it is today. Vince Staples's new mediation on current politics and the state of the world has resonated with me with like no other album since Teens of Denial, and the punk rock ... read more
Putting a fun trap song at the end of a garbage mindless pop album is the most post rock thing I've ever seen. Tones and I are visionaries
EDIT(100-70): Everytime I listen to my beautiful dark twisted fantasy i like it a little less; the songs as songs are mostly great but as an album experience it just leaves me kind of cold. I won't lower my score because i don't want to be too similar to fantano but just know the 75 is a little generous.
College trilogy just kinda ruined this album for me they're so much better it's not even close, both in terms of the writing and ESPECIALLY the production. Dark Fantasy just ... read more
To be honest I expected to like this much less than I did, but the production as a result of this downtuned and distorted bass actually really works, and the drumming, while basic, completely serves its purpose.
This was an album I was a huge fan of back when my music knowledge consisted of whatever was on Radio 1 and the few CDs my dad had in the car, so coming back to it knowing this didn't fill me with excitement. And yeah the structuring of the songs is detrimentally basic, and no one ... read more
EDIT (35-70): I knew I'd reviewed this before, but I expected my review to be a 50 or a 60, not a fucking 35
Anyway I really like this album. There's obvious hits and obvious filler tracks, the lyrics are filled with emo nonsense, "smoke with me, drink with me, fucked up liver with some bad kidneys" but between the catchy hooks and pretty simple cloud rap production, Juice Wrld comes through with something that's pretty addictive despite not having the most substance
The discourse around this album is fucking stupid. JPEG's said some obnoxious corny shit, for sure, and taking shots at Earl was uncalled for.
But this is NOT a miss. All the reviews I've seen, positive or negative, seem so angry for whatever reason, fans are angry with people for judging off what JPEG's said rather than the music, and haters are angry that this isn't quite up to JPEG standard following all the cocky stuff he's said. It's stupid.
Personally, I ... read more
It feels really immature but also really dark and kind of fucked up and gross, but also kinda funny.
Basically look at the fucking name and album cover man. This was great
This is the first album since I first heard Terrifyer to instill that same feeling of intensity in me
Consider me extremely, unbelievably, insanely biased when I say this, but this is the best album ever
How does the 15 second intro have an 80+ score people are just rating anything
I see why this went number 1, and I see how this is by far the heaviest album to do it. The riffs and vocals are brutal yet still accessible in a way only groove metal can really capture, and while I wasn't a fan of their first two albums, from the 90s, in simplifying their sound (and having a chunky as fuck guitar tone) they've managed to make something that's still special 30 years on.
Also the fifth "song" is basically an embodiment of why we don't like this ... read more
