Daft Punk - Give Life Back to Music
88

Easily one of the best opening tracks of the 2010s. Fittingly it's attached to one of the decade's best albums.

My Chemical Romance - Helena
93

One of the greatest pop punk songs of all time. Point blank period.

David Bowie - Space Oddity
88

This song blew my friggin mind the first time I heard it as a kid. Such an iconic build-up and an endlessly gratifying climax.

Arcade Fire - Electric Blue
30

This is the worst Arcade Fire song.

clipping. - Nothing Is Safe
90

clipping. rounds out an extremely impressive decade with yet another fantastic LP. The album's lead single and opener "Nothing Is Safe" is a masterclass in musical tension and a display of Daveed Diggs's considerable storytelling talent.

FKA twigs - cellophane
90

The song is incredible, but it's really the music video that takes my breath away time and time again. Video of the year 2019 and it isn't even very close.

Dorian Electra - Flamboyant
90

A lot of the songs on Dorian Electra's ingeniously subversive debut album focus on a specific lyrical concept, be it sugar daddies, toxic masculinity, or the Catholic church's aversion towards queer people. But the album's finest song, "Flamboyant" is a simple character portrait of Dorian Electra as an artist. With it's over-the-top synth hits and sassy vocals, the listener comes out of this song knowing exactly two things about Dorian.
1.) They're flamboyant.
2.) They go all the way.

Liturgy - God of Love
96

This right here is Hunter Hunt Hendrix's masterpiece. Everything she's done as a composer up until this point has led to "GOD OF LOVE". The blistering drums and righteous guitars lead the charge in this absolute monster of a track. The bells, the strings, the choir vocals, the odd glitchy embellishments, it's all here and it's all in service of the song. Every instrument has its place and there's hardly a moment where the sound lets up. A standout musical moment of 2019 for sure.

Sharon Van Etten - Seventeen
93

Absolutely massive tune. Sharon Van Etten channels the spirit of Springsteen in his prime and writes one of the finest songs of 2019.

Talk Talk - I Believe In You
100

"I Believe In You" is Mark Hollis's masterpiece and one of the best songs ever written. I could go on about how this track, along with many of the amazing songs from Talk Talk's artistic peak, helped to set the foundation for post-rock as a genre, but really, that isn't what makes this song specifically so incredible. The sound of it all is entrancing, yes, but the true magic, like with many great songs, lies in the meaning. This song is Mark making a final plea to his brother to quit ... read more
