I really had some high expectations for this record.
The singles were really good! The non singles were really just fine. Nothing wrong with them, but they didnt stand out to me whatsoever.
Also this intro really setthe stage well, BUT i dont like it. It feels like im listening to an audiobook, not an opening to a record.
This record will still get a good rating, since its fun. But this record really feels like it had tons of potential, but wasted alot of it in the non-singles.
Next up, in my Metallica discography deepdive... "And Justice For All".
I have to preface this, by saying that this is my go to older Metallica record. So, i may be biased towards it.
On here are some of Metallicas best written songs ever, combined with the most poor production i have heard so far.
Songs like "One" or "Blackened" are true classics, that only get dragged down by the fact that there is absolutely no bass in sight.
In my opinion, there are still alot ... read more
Its really cool to have them back in the scene, but this album does not do it for me.
It feels very cookie cutter, standart and almost uninspired. After 3 listens of this, no song stood out and i had no real notes. It all just flew by. Therefore my rating!
Im confused to be fair. It didnt sound bad, nor did the southern shouted vocals hurt it. But it was so short, that it just flies by and leaves me wantong alot more.
There are no real standouts in this record consisting out of hardcore beats, deep shouts and southern vibes.
If you are in dire need of some heavy stuff, i guess it hits the spot? Certainly nothing ill return to.
On i continue with Metallicas discography.
Now i come to this. The big boi. The endboss. The highlight.
Ofcourse everyone has heard the amazing title track. 0 complaints here. But the rest of the record, really is nothing to scoff at. Its a drastic step up from Ride The Lightning if you ask me.
Battery starts off the record with its high energy, fast faced vocals and frantic guitars. It sets the mood perfectly well for all that is to come. The title track needs no further explanation. Its just ... read more
A real underdog came to deliver one of the best metalcore records of this year so far!
I didnt know anything about this band, before checking this record out. I only saw, one of my favourite Metalcore acts, Chaosbay, shout them out on their socials. So I decided to check them out. And wow, they were right.
In theory, there is nothing inherently new here. Great, but kind of generic vocals. Typical 2026 Metalcore riffage and breakdowns. And relatively simple lyrics if you take them at face ... read more
Typical beatdown deathcore with no real new things to find or talk about.
Some songs are fun, due to them being bouncy and headbangeable. But nothing here is a real standout apart from the clean chorus in bed_of_nails. Also, can we stop with these nameing schemes? Theyre god damn annoying...
I need a deathcore break again.
Another Grief Collector record so quick after the other? This cant bode well...
And if you ask me, it didnt. This feels like a really watered down version of "The Death of all Dreams" with its theme missing.
If you like doom, you may find something here. I really didnt. I was mainly bored.
Also... what the hell is that cover art?
Another band, i only knew by name. Sevendust.
So, my first record by them "ONE" isnt something special.
Its some well done hard rock / alternative metal with good hooks and some fun nu metal passages. Ive heard and liked similar things in the past. Alot of songs do the same thing, which isnt bad.
I really enjoyed the closer though! That song really stood out!
Overall its a fine record. It will get the hype that it deserves and i will pick out a few songs from it!
On I go through Metallicas Discography.
Now with the second big record from the oldschool thrash era.
I gotta say, i liked it more than i expected, but less than i did "Kill em all".
Alot more clean singing is present here, even a ballad with "Fade To Black". There are certain bangers here though! Fight Fire With Fire, For Whom The Bell Tolls, Creeping Death or The Call Of Ktulu. Sadly, the other songs dont do as much for me, as the non highlights did on Kill Em All.
Still ... read more
Some really good Post-Metal. Slow brooding riffs, immaculate atmospheres and great vocals.
Im not entirely sure, if i will return to this alot, but it is really well made and fits into the void of Post Blackmetal, that im craving lately!
Well... here i go with my first discog deepdive!
Ofcourse ill start here, the beginning of Thrash Metal, Metallicas Debut.
I always said, that i didnt like the production, since im to newschool to enjoy it. But after todays relisten, it grew on me. alot.
It fits for the time frame, fits the extreme punk influence that created Thrash and fits the songs. I really enjoyed this more than I thought I would!
Hit The Lights is a great opener and followed by one of my personal favourites "The ... read more
Some really solid modern metalcore with alot of electronic influence! Good riffs, solid vocals. As expected, good breakdowns.
Sadly it suffers from a similar fate that tons of Metalcore does. It feels the same as most other releases in this genre, without much to tell them apart. Im just happy that i enjoy this style generally!
This really should be a record, that id highly enjoy, but it doesnt connect as I want it to.
I really guess, its just to typical Black Metal for me. I like the riffs, i like the atmosphere, but it loses me on the vocals. In itself theyre not wrong, but they dont feel like they fit here. Also due to it, the atmosphere, which i come to love in post-black, comes short here.
"Trug" is a great song though!
Dir En Grey is a name, that floats around in the Metal scene alot. And, i was very aware that they were weird.
Now i saw they had a new record, so I went and wanted to see for myself. Yes, i can agree, its weird. But it makes sense to be this weird, if you combine Metal / Metalcore with Visual Kei and J-Pop. This record feels all over the place, but in a good way. My personal favourites are the heavier ones with tons of eastern influences. But, this record had no replayability for me. Its well ... read more
Well, what did I come back to with Nekrogoblikon?
Folk Metal and Dicky Allan? Okay...
As much as i do kind of enjoy the direction that this project takes, it feels incomplete and rushed. Nothing on here stays in my head and it having 5 live tracks feels weird.
I hope they atleast somehow keep some of this style inside of their music but evolve it further for their next project!
This was my first full record from Foo Fighters, and i gotta say im not impressed.
The overall sound is alot more grungy than i expected, which is a big detriment to sound quality (if u ask me).
The hooks dont really grip me, outside of the very weird and bad ones like in "Window" or "Your Favourite Toy". The rest felt bland. I have no songs saved, and probably will not go back to this record!
Sorry Mr.Grohl and Band!
Well, ill sour the party here once again.
At the Gates return with their final record with their leadsinger Tomas Lindberg (R.I.P).
This record shows off all facetts that he and At The Gates were known for.
The bad thing... i couldnt connect to it at all. No song stuck with me, no melody was comind to mind. Nothing.
I really tried to enjoy this, since At the Gates is one of the bands, that formed modern Metal as we know it. And i really honor them for what they did here and in prior records, ... read more
Bragging Rights seemingly really wanted to make a record, that Gojira wrote the riffs on. Every riff, even if similar, is so recognizable Gojira, that it almost hurts. The big problem here though, while they arent a copy of Gojira, they rely on these riffs alot, and play them out for minutes on end. This makes the songs feel stagnant and static, adjectives id normally use for a Doom Metal record. And here its definitively not a good thing. The Songs flow into one another, the changes happen ... read more
A really solid and simple Hardcore record.
Riffs are simple, but hit. Vocals feel angry, lyrics are well written. The Features all have their own purpose and to something special.
Personally, a bit more variance within each song wouldve been cool, but thats me being picky!
The last song really is something different, but i personally didnt get much out of it.
Overall really solid Hardcore!
