Drudkh are so busy, its incredible. The amount of their output never ceases. This is another well done Athmospheric Black Metal EP. While the first song is really generic feeling, the other 2 blow it out of the ballpark with their flowing structures and deepening bellows. The atmosphere is absolutely great!
It doesnt get a higher score since I dont like 1/3 songs on this EP tho.
Atreyu are finally back with something i really enjoy. After being let down by Baptized in 2020 and being lukewarm on the EPs in 2023 (with their culmination being an record, that didnt make them fit), i didnt have high hopes for this. But it surpassed my expectations and turned out to be decent! It combines the modern take on Metalcore (which many would call "Octanecore") with riffs from the 2000s era of Metalcore and throws in some curveballs to keep it engaging. The riffs are good ... read more
A really slow and brooding record with Oldschool Heavy Metal vocals and simple but effective riffs. Its sadly so slow, that it feels stagnant and static at times, which hurts the flow of a record like this immensely. Overall its a fine experience to listen to it as a whole project. But it really is just to long, if you ask me.
Overall, if you like oldschool Doom Metal, go give it a try. The Album Cover is absolutely amazing tho!
Ive never been a big fan of Sepultura, but this EP was a nice listen!
"All Souls Rising" is a very chaotic start to the EP. "Beyond the Dream" is quite a change of pace, being alot slower and more progressive coated, which i highly enjoyed. "Sacred Books" is a very weird track, combining tons of different sounds. But it does work quite well, even if it has definitive low points. "The Place" ends this EP on a rather simple note, not staying in my head ... read more
What can i say here, that hasnt been said...
This record isnt anything outstanding or special. Its well done, well performed etc. But the riffs feel static, the vocals are fine, but nothing outstanding either. Some Vocal melodies really stand out though! The chorus from "Heaven Sent", even if very repetetive, is a good change of pace here! So is "Kickboxer" as a whole track, and the breakdown of "Bleed" hits like a truck. But that is where the standout moments end ... read more
This record is a beautiful display of peaceful feeling pop punk and post hardcore.
It feels like the record casts a ray of sunshine upon your skin.
Sadly its not my thing whatsoever, and i really dont remember much from it apart from the overall vibe. But thats on me!
This is incredibly fun!
Just take up some rap, some reggae and put it on heavy riffs? BOOM, youll get skindred creting their own style of Nu-Metal!
The heavier songs are very bouncy and groove well with the reggae vocals. I was bopping my head all the way through this record. Sadly, the slower songs do not hold a candle to the upbeat ones.
You gotta glance over the lyrics though. Since they can get very cringeworthy at times.
Some solid SLudge Metal with some heavy Black Metal influences.
Alot of atmosphere mixed with typical sludge riffs and guttural vocals make up for this great combination!
There is alot to like here. But it doesnt have those extreme high peak moments to bump it over a 75. Still good record for all those craving something dark & dirty.
This record really blew me away.
I didnt know of the existance of this band, and it captivated me instantly!
The solemn atmospheres with the crunchy djenty riffs coming in and the very evocative and impressive vocals is just an incredibly well done combo. The intense tracks hit like they need to, while still giving tons of space to breat. The slow tracks, even if not as good, provide awesomebreaks and show incredible vocal ability. They evoke emotion and show vulnerability.
The record is ... read more
Im once again the unpopular one over here, but that is okay.
Im still trying to convince myself that i will find a revivalcore project, i enjoy. But this aint the one.
Once again, i can see how well its made but i just cant bring myself to really care about either the riffs nor the production.
If you like this, more power to ya. But its not my thing!
Downtempo Deathcore being a big nothingburger once again.
This record repeats alot of well treaden ground and relies on its sheer heaviness. The riffs didnt stand out much, nor did the chrousses or the breakdowns. I only enjoyed the riff from "Dollar To A Dime". The rest isnt bad, but just incredibly forgettable.
Also these many features, and still sounding the same, is kind off weird.
That is some really oldschool 2000s era christcore.
I didnt care much for the lyrics, nor was i there when that sound was prevalent, but they pull it off well enough to give me something interesting! It isnt somewthing ill go back to, but it is cool to listen to.
What i have to say is the creativity within the heavy and breakdown sections of this record is immaculate! So is the riffage. Still, even though its very short with only round about 30min, it didnt keep me as interested as id hoped to ... read more
A modern alt metal / hard rock (whatever) record, with some good hooks, good shouts and simple but effective songwriting. I dont get why anything simple gets scored so low here. No its not an amazing record that anyone needs to hear. But its simple and does what it does pretty well. I only really dislike the closer with its low energy rap going into that massive breakdown for no reason whatsoever. Also, i might get hated for this, but "Black Hearts" sounds like budget Motionless In ... read more
Midwinter really gain some traction here, huh?
This is midwinters sophomore record, and i gotta say, they keep their consistent quality. In this record, they refined their sound even more, resulting in a very well crafted progressive Metalcore record, akin to Invent,Animate's "Heavener" or Monuments's "In Stasis". Highly complex and djenty riffs with alot of synthwork and atmosphere layered ontop of it all.
But, i am probably just done with this genre, since as ... read more
I have to say, Stigma wasnt good. I didnt hate it either. Same thing with Pressure. Manic i did enjoy, and its the same thing with this EP. I enjoy it, but im not over the moon for it. Its a good small collection of more heavy sounding songs with kinda terrible lyricism.
"Song of the Swamp" feels like they combined their sound from Manic with Deathcore, to create a menacing first look into this project. Then there are songs like "4x4" and "Karma", which in sound i ... read more
Acoustic Black Metal done wrong.
I always enjoy when Black Metal Bands dive into their Folk vibes and go acoustic. But here, there was no substance. It all felt flat, no depth, no atmosphere.
It wasnt truly terrible, but bad enough, so that i did not care whatsoever.
Enter Shikari return with a secret record drop. No singles, no nothing.
This record has alot of potical and capitalist criticism while embracing a darker and gloomy atmosphere. There are alot of different influences throughout this record. They range from art pop with electronica to straight up metalcore and post-hardcore. This is also where the records problems lay. It feels all over the place and not really follows a coherent structure. Sometimes this works to its advantage, sometimes it ... read more
It seems, im just out of the loop.
Everyone seems to enjoy this record. Then there is me, who listened, forgot instantly about its existance right after.
To me, there wasnt much of anything standout here. But im also not a technical Death Metal listener. So, that is probably on me!
Anyway, Inferie have crafted a well done record, even though i seemingly dont enjoy it as much.
Still, if you like it, great!
Me liking proper Death Metal? A rare occurance!
This speaks for the quality that immolation present here on their twelveth record.
The riffs are very present on this record. That is what makes it fun to me. The guitars are ever changing, snaking through the songs. They range from oldschool death metal to modern metal arrangements. The vocals are typical death metal. And the drums are outstanding aswell. I personally just lack some memorability in there. It doesnt hook me in a way, that id want ... read more
There is weird, then there is weirder... and then there is this....
Grindcore legends Napalm Death parner up with Melvins to create one of the most experimental and out there things ive ever heard. Sadly, its not very positive in this example. This record feels uncohesive and out there. The riffs are simple, but typical Slam. Then there are very elongated and weird synths and electronica, which create an unsetteling athmosphere. The vocals are not my style whatsoever. Also the long passages of ... read more
