Out of myself has a usual narrative and musical setting in progressive rock. But it led perhaps more to the cinematographic. This sound is condensed into a kind of emotional breakdown, into a feeling of doubt and loss. It tries (and succeeds, at its best) to be personal and profound. Quite a beautiful album. Calm and leisurely. I understand why this could be considered a predecessor to Circles. And it is precisely in that where we can remove the negative and positive. The sentimental theme makes weight in all the songs. But many of the songs feel empty over time and become very forgettable. It would have to be on a list of the best posthumous albums. It's all the good that Mac Miller could have done musically along with the tone that covers the very album cover. Quite mature, direct and melancholic. Listening to this is always a beautiful experience.
